Mercy EMS is staffed with three-hundred and fifty coworkers. Our Administrative staff include our Medical Director, Director of EMS, 2 Regional EMS Managers, 4 EMS Managers, 11 Operations Supervisors, and 14 Field Supervisors. Mercy EMS is supported by an EMS Office Staff which includes an EMS Office Manager, and QM Billing Specialists. The system currently operates a fleet of 63 Ambulances, 6 Supervisor Response Vehicles, and a number of Rapid Deployment Trailers including a Regional Communication asset, Mass Casualty Trailer, Special Response Team, Special Event Team, and Mortuary Assistance Unit. Mercy EMS responds to more than 62,000 requests for service annually. While the majority of those requests involve emergency medical response, other requests include routine and long distance transfers, fire and law enforcement standbys, special events, and special operations. In 2004 Mercy EMS became part of the Region D Homeland Security Response Team, providing medical assets for suspected terrorist events in the state of Missouri and surrounding regions. Since that time, the Homeland Security team has evolved into Mercy EMS Special Response Team. Mercy SRT consists of 12 Full-time Paramedics, who are trained in Hazardous Materials, Specialized Rescue, and Tactical Law Enforcement techniques. Mercy EMS also operates a Special Events Team which consists of 9 Full-time EMTs and Paramedics who provide Bike EMS coverage for local events such as the Mercy Sunshine Run, Ozark Empire Fair, Sertoma Club Rock n' Ribs, along with several others. Each member of the Special Events Team is assigned and maintains a specially fitted Cannondale bicycle. Prior to beginning service with the team, each member must complete a 40 hour bicycle operations course from the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA). Aside from Emergency Medical Response, Mercy EMS operates and maintains a Full-time Out Patient Transport Division. The OPT Division staffs two full-time coworkers, two part time coworkers, and a number of prn staff. Utilizing a fleet of three transportation wheelchair vans, and two shuttle busses, the OPT Division operates Monday - Friday to transport individuals to any appointments scheduled within the Mercy System. Mercy EMS Education Divison serves a vital role for the system. The EMS Education Division provides quarterly competency education for all EMT's and Paramedics who are actively working on ground EMS. The quarterly competency education contains trainings such as Protocol Updates, Reviews, and Testing, 12-Lead EKG testing, skills competency testing, and equipment updates. The EMS Education Division also offers an annual Paramedic Training Program which begins each August, semi-annual EMT programs which begin in August and January, as well as Monday Night CEU classes which meet one Monday each month year round and provides free CEU's to Emergency Medical Responders around the community. For more information on the EMS Education Programs call 417-820-5454.

Ready for flu season? 🍂 Now’s a good time to get your vaccines on the calendar. Flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines each have different timing recommendations. Here’s when to get each one:
Flu: September or October is the best time to get vaccinated for the fall flu season, but it’s still a good idea to get your vaccine later in the season. The vaccine takes about two weeks to become fully effective.
COVID-19: The COVID-19 vaccine was recently updated, and with the respiratory season upon us, receiving this vaccine now will provide the best protection (assuming you received the older vaccine more than three months ago). Additional doses may be recommended based on age, vaccination history and immune status. When additional updates to the vaccine happen, immunization is recommended ASAP, but no sooner than three months after your last COVID-19 vaccine.
RSV: Eligible adults should get the RSV vaccine between August and October, or any time of year. You do not need to get an RSV vaccine every year.
Not sure which vaccines you need or when to get them? Talk with your healthcare provider.
Today, and every day, we continue to celebrate the children who have faced some of the hardest challenges with resilience and bravery. Thank you for being a light. ✨

Rural health challenges require local solutions and strong partnerships! We're proud to join Heartland Whole Health Institute and partners across Arkansas in the Rural Health Transformation Program, working to create healthier communities and improve access to care where it's needed most.
Big news for rural health in Arkansas.
Heartland Whole Health Institute is proud to convene six Arkansas health care organizations through Heartland Whole Health Connect, a new rural health initiative supported through $8.4 million from Arkansas' Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).
Together with Mercy, Community Clinic, Boston Mountain Rural Health Center, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, St. Bernards Healthcare, and Arkansas CPESN, we’ll work to expand access to primary and preventive care, strengthen chronic disease management, increase telehealth and remote care, and advance whole-person care closer to home.
We’re excited for what this investment makes possible for Arkansas and what we can learn together to help shape the future of rural health across the country.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Nodaway County Ambulance District.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Paramedic and Deputy Director Justin Donovan. At this time we ask that you keep his wife Jillian, his children, and the entire Donovan family in your thoughts and prayers. Please do not be alarmed if you see an ambulance from another district running calls in Nodaway County as our mutual aid partners are providing us with time to cope with this loss. As more information becomes available on services we will update accordingly. We also ask that you please keep the NCAD family in your thoughts as they mourn the loss of a dear friend and colleague.
