Vendor Spotlight- The Arc of Illinois

The Arc of Illinois advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, families and community organizations to ensure that people with disabilities can live, work, learn, and play in communities across the state.

The Arc offers resources and information, supports families in their individual advocacy efforts and trains and educates people with disabilities, families and professionals among other things.

Vendor Spotlight – Illinois AgrAbility

AgrAbility enhances the quality of life for farmers, veterans, and other agricultural workers with disabilities, so they, their families, and their communities continue to succeed in rural America. To date, more than 1,500 farm clients have received one-on-one services though Illinois AgrAbility.

Illinois AgrAbility is a partnership between the University of Illinois Extension, Community Health Partnership of Illinois, and Illinois Assistive Technology Program.

Have gently used durable medical equipment (DME) not being used? Donate it to us! During the Open House Event on Monday, October 26 from 9 am to noon and 3 to 6 pm, IATP is hosting a DME drive. Bring your gently used DME to IATP and come learn more about our programs.

The donations will increase IATP’s Reuse Program inventory, therefore helping more individuals throughout the community. Also, the DME drive promotes sustainability by giving valuable equipment a second life.

We will be spotlighting our Resource Fair Vendors over the next few weeks. First up is AgeLinc!

AgeLinc (Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland) funds transportation and nutrition programs, assist with applying for discount license plates and bus passes, help with Medicare Part D enrollment, provide educational opportunities as well as provide support to caregivers and LGBT+ Seniors. If you are 60 or over, a disabled adult (for certain programs) or a family caregiver (18 or over), it all starts with AgeLinc!

The IATP Makers Program received a request for a custom pill map. The customer had a hard time remembering if she had taken her medications because they are complex and the schedule can be intense. Timing each medication matters for her health. She has tried various products for her medications, but none gave her a true solution. After hearing how this customer struggled, the team created a pill map she could slide over when she took it. This would help serve as a physical and tactile reminder. The customer found great success with this new reminder system that will aid her in her daily health. To learn more about the Makers Program visit https://makers.iltech.org/

Thanks to a donation from the Sertoma Club of Springfield, IATP has 10 SafeAwake Bed Shakers to give away. The SafeAwake is a fire safety device that awakens deaf, hard-of-hearing, and other individuals to fire emergencies.

The device is designed to work with a properly installed, working smoke alarm to alert sleeping individuals to a fire. The Springfield Fire Department will deliver and install the devices at no cost.
