The story behind my Moon City design…
When Springfield originally started and grew a business district around what is now known as downtown, the merchants there were waiting on the railroad for so long that the joke got around that there would be a train to the moon before there was one to Springfield. So when the railroad chose the land for the tracks and they bypassed the town a mile north of “old Springfield,” an impromptu new city began next to the tracks called “North Springfield” and this is what we now know as Commercial Street. Thus, it earned the nickname “Moon City.”
