We came out to Mount Vernon, Missouri thinking this was a story about cattle. 🐂
What we found was so much bigger. 👇
The Wilmoth family has spent generations protecting 6,000 acres of Missouri prairie, historic farms, and native grassland that's slowly disappearing across America.
✅ 2,000+ head of Angus cattle
✅ An 1872 church still standing on their land
✅ An 1860s log cabin they rebuilt log by log
✅ One of the most pristine native prairies left in Missouri
But the most powerful part? Brent and Eric Wilmoth owns all of it… and still pumps fuel for truckers at his travel center every morning.
"Always be humble. Always be kind. Leave it better than you found it."
This one's special. Don't miss it. 🎥👇

The trucking business started because a flip went wrong 👇
Back in 2008, the plan was to buy a wrecked truck, fix it up, and sell it.
But after putting too much money into it, selling didn't make much sense anymore.
So they put a family member in the driver's seat, rented a belt trailer from a neighbor, and started hauling commodities.
That truck had been through the woods.
The front end was destroyed.
The axles were bent.
But it had good bones.
Sometimes success starts with making the best out of a situation that didn't go according to plan.
Everyone wants more trucks...
Until they realize what comes with them.
More drivers.
More personalities.
More maintenance.
More problems to solve.
At one point they were running 20+ trucks and maintaining 130 trailers. The hardest part wasn't the equipment—it was managing all the moving pieces and keeping everything on track.
That's the side of business growth people don't always see.
Bigger isn't always easier.
Most people looked at this trailer and saw a wreck.
They bought it anyway.
It had damage down the side from the recovery process, needed work, and wasn't exactly pretty.
But after some repairs?
It's been hauling for years without problems.
The best part?
There was only about $20,000 invested in a trailer that was worth around $100,000 when it was two years old.
Sometimes the best deals aren't the prettiest ones.
Funny how big ideas sometimes happen by accident 👇
At the time, they were trying to haul grain with just a few company trucks…
But they couldn’t move it fast enough.
So they brought in some owner-operators to help.
Those guys already had their own trucks and trailers—
and little by little, the model just made sense.
What started as a simple solution turned into one of the biggest owner-operator bulk fleets in the country.
Sometimes growth starts by just solving the problem in front of you.
It started with an idea… and a couple used hopper trailers 👇
Before even pitching it to the family, the groundwork was already happening:
Signing up with brokers.
Looking for opportunities.
Trying to figure out if it could really work.
Then they took the chance.
Came home with two trailers.
A couple drivers got started.
Then came the next thought:
“I want everything pulling a hopper.”
That’s how growth starts—
one decision at a time.

"Maybe we should just give this up."
That was Bulk Loads members Matt and Sharon Kill two years ago — not because the business was failing, but because it was growing TOO fast.
They scaled from 8 trucks to 21. Then they did something most trucking companies won't: they scaled right back down to 8.
In this episode, they get real about building a trucking, spreading, farming & feed operation from nothing out of Saint Mary's, Ohio, and why for their business, success was never about the number of trucks.

Business owners talk about time like they never have enough. He says spend it with your kids. That is what we are here for. He challenges other business owners to do the same and stop taking it for granted.
Here’s a simple trucking hack 👇
You can use a Gladhand airline setup to:
💨 Fill tires
🔧 Run air tools
🚛 Power a vi****or on your trailer
Yeah, built-in trailer hookups are easier…
But if you bought a used trailer and don’t want to mess with the plumbing, this is a simple solution that works.
Every bale is 3x4x8 feet. One big baler matches three 3-tie balers for output. They ran 3-tie 120 to 130 pound bales for years. Around 2008 big bales started taking over and the efficiency argument was hard to ignore.
