Space is vast and full of mysteries. Many of them remain to be solved, although science has already advanced quite far.

Let's look at what we know about space at the moment.

When the stars align. 🌟

Lowell Observatory and the community of Flagstaff are known as the Home of Pluto. This is the discovery place of our state planet, which was recognized as an important emblem of Arizona. bit.ly/3GlPSLz

There are more stars in the entire universe than grains of sand that form all the beaches on planet Earth.... 🏖

The list of the most unusual objects in the Universe can be endless: it can include a planet made of diamonds, and the only “tailed” planet in the solar system, and a celestial body on which a person is buried.

The largest reservoir of water in space contains 140 trillion times more water than all the oceans on our planet. This is a cloud of water v***r surrounding the quasar APM 08279+5255, which is located in the constellation Lynx, 12 billion light years away.

Dark energy
Dark energy is a hypothetical form of energy that counteracts gravity: it pushes cosmic objects away from each other, while gravity, on the contrary, attracts them. Scientists have proposed looking at dark energy to explain why comprehensive regulation is accelerating. The jury is still out on the nature and recognition of dark energy: in this case, "dark" means "unknown" rather than truly invisible, as is the case with dark matter. In various applications, dark energy makes up approximately 68% of the Universe.

Dark matter does not emit or account for light or power because it is completely invisible. Scientists suggest that it consists of nonbaryonic matter - WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles), neutralinos and neutrinos. Despite the fact that dark matter cannot be seen, the results of the study allow astronomers to assume its existence. For example, studies of spiral galaxies, which contain much more mass than can be observed visually. If dark matter didn't exist, these galaxies would simply fall apart because the gravity of normal matter alone would not be enough to hold all the particles together. Dark matter is estimated to make up about 27% of the Universe.

Boundaries of outer space
Space can be divided into several regions. They are determined by the magnetic fields and “winds” that dominate within their boundaries.

Space is everything that is outside the conventional line separating the Earth from outer space. There are different ways to determine where exactly space begins. The most universal reference point is the Karman line, which runs at an altitude of 100 km above mean sea level. From this point on, the air becomes too thin for conventional aircraft to fly.

Here's the site of our earliest, most distant look yet at a black hole merger.

The Webb Telescope has detected evidence of a collision between two galaxies and their massive black holes, so far away that we're seeing it as it was when the universe was only 740 million years old.

Webb allowed the team to spatially separate the two black holes and determined that one of the two black holes has a mass that is 50 million times the mass of the Sun. The mass of the other black hole is likely similar, although it is harder to measure because this second black hole is buried in dense gas.

Space is an almost perfect vacuum, airless space. Space is not empty space: it is permeated with various radiations, and also contains particles of gas, dust and other matter.
