I had such a meaningful conversation with Dr. Cristina Castagnini on the Cristina Castagnini about weight stigma, GLP-1s, and the eating disorders healthcare so often misses or even praises in larger bodied patients.

We started with my own story, my atypical anorexia and orthorexia during chiropractic school, and how that experience is actually what led me to build a weight neutral practice.

From there we got into the real harm of BMI based medical denial, where patients are refused surgeries and procedures they need based on a number that says very little about their actual health.

We also talked honestly about GLP-1 medications, including the sarcopenia risk that rarely gets mentioned before someone starts one, and why informed consent matters so much here.

If you are a provider rethinking how you talk to patients about weight, or you are someone who has felt dismissed in a doctor’s office because of your body size, this episode is for you.

Episode 290 is live now. Link in bio to listen to the full conversation.

Thank you Britt Baird for designing the body image for my booth at Ozarks Pridefest 🏳️‍🌈 this year. It was a beautiful display to help people engage at my booth. Where do you hold your tension or pain??

It is so important for me to have representation of body types in all of my marketing. So thankful to have found such a talented artist!!!

Please go follow her work and also you should sign up for her Patreon to get a monthly art sticker and floral print.

Please don’t let your mass in relationship to gravity dictate how you feel about your body today.

If you are letting seeing a number make your day worse, you can just not look at the number, like ever.

If you weight yourself everyday and the number is dictating how your day goes, it’s ok to just stop.

You don’t need a number to make you feel like s**t.

Permission slip for my fellow women in their forties: C work is still passing, and you do not have to earn your worth through perfect effort every single day.

The same willpower and hustle that made us high achievers is often the exact thing that kept us trapped in diet culture for so long, convinced that if we just tried harder, we could finally change our bodies.

That is not a personal failure; it is what we were taught. Unlearning it is the real work, and it does not have to be perfect either.

Choosing love looks like showing up for patients who have historically been let down by healthcare systems that were never built with them in mind. Q***r and trans folks deserve care that affirms who they are, respects their body without condition, and doesn’t treat their identity or their size as something to be corrected.

Weight-neutral, trauma-informed, size-inclusive care isn’t a niche offering. It’s what all good healthcare should look like, and the q***r community in particular has every reason to be skeptical of providers who haven’t done that work.

If you’ve spent years bracing yourself before appointments, rehearsing how to explain yourself, or leaving visits feeling worse than when you walked in, that wasn’t your fault. You deserved better then, and you deserve it now.

Happy Pride. 🏳️‍🌈

I knew I was going to be a chiropractor when I was 14 years old. I had no idea I’d end up with an eating disorder because of it.
Now I teach other healthcare providers how to reduce shame and stigma in folks in larger bodies. It is important as healthcare providers that think about the potential trauma we may cause during a visit.
I just opened a size inclusive chiropractic practice in Springfield, MO. I’m here to help.
