The Springfield Sting is a proud member of the American Basketball Association, and the only professional basketball club in Western Mass.
The goal of the Springfield Sting is to provide quality, entertaining and affordable professional basketball in a friendly and safe environment. The Springfield Sting were established in 2016 as Western Massachusetts' only professional basketball club. Playing in the American Basketball Association, the Sting are part of the Northeast Division, alongside teams in Boston, Providence, New York, Long Island, and New Jersey.
The General Manager and Head Coach of the Springfield Sting is Dr. Steven Sobel. Sobel, a former Division II star at the University of Hartford, has spent over 40 years coaching collegiate and professional basketball teams and players. During the offseason, Sobel is at the helm of the Springfield Slamm of the Greater Hartford Pro-Am Basketball League. Sobel is also a nationally recognized Motivational Speaker and author of The Good Times Handbook - Your Guide to Positive Living and Exciting Life. The Founder/Owner of the Springfield Sting is Zach Baru. Baru, a high school teacher, has sports and entertainment experience with the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League, the Greater Springfield Pro-Am Basketball League, the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League and the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, working in the Youth Programs and Operations departments.
It is with both sadness and excitement to announce that the Springfield ABA market will be transferred to a new local owner. As a high school teacher, I wanted to make sure I could find someone local who could focus on the team full-time.
Bill Bullock will be the new owner of the Springfield ABA market, he is a former minor league basketball owner and is sure to do great things in the Springfield market.
I cannot thank everyone enough for all of your support of the Sting, and I wish all fans the very best.
