Here he is! My 2026 solo archery bull.

After spending seven nights camped on the mountain I finally had the opportunity I was looking for— a bull within range.
The action had been slow so I did what I always do when that happens… Find a good comfy spot in the thick timber where I hope there might be some bedded elk nearby and either wait for bugles or hope something comes below me where they can’t wind me.
Well I chose the right spot to sit this time. This guy came out at around 10:40 AM for a late morning stroll. The only way I’d be able to get a shot on him is if he decided to go up and over a small saddle which he ended up doing! I had ranged the spot he’d walk past at 50 yards and waited for the moment to where his vitals were in view. After drawing back 3 different times he finally gave me a clear shot. I anchored, aimed, and let it fly! I heard a perfect smack and he spooked to 20 yards and immediately stopped. I couldn’t see an entry and there was no blood, but he definitely wasn’t feeling good and worked his way back into the draw where he came from.
I was nervous at first, due to not seeing blood or my arrow and gave him an hour. Little did I know as soon as he went into that draw he died right there. It was a perfect heart shot.
He’s the earliest bull I’ve taken so far. I almost felt like it was too good to be true considering I’m usually hunting these guys for weeks on end haha.
I’m beyond grateful and ecstatic to have taken this bull. Even more grateful to have that freezer full of elk meat once again 🙌🏼

2026 Archery Bull, first year archery elk hunting was a success, he stepped out at 62 yards and delivered a clean kill shot thanks to Beast Broadheads. Thank you Gavin Nichols for calling him in and sitting in the pouring rain with me, Tristan Nichols for being the spotter, and Brady Nichols and jaylin for being along for the ride. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I shot a bull of this caliber.

The past couple days have been nonstop action hunting with my good friend Joel Turner, and I’ve been blown away by how many bulls he called in using his calf-in-distress call. I’m not exaggerating when I say EVERY single bull that we saw responded to it.

I’ve never been in a position where I could actually be picky elk hunting. Usually, if I get an opportunity at a bull, I’m taking it. This time I finally had the chance to hold off, pass bulls, and wait for something big.

But I never expected I’d get a bull like this! He came in on a string from well over 1,000 yards away.

There’s way too much to this story to fit into one post, so I’ll be sharing the full hunt and everything that happened in some upcoming posts.

Dad’s first archery bull! This bull slipped in as I was working another bull and gave me just enough time to run down below and call him into range for dad to make a perfect shot!

My success is not individual, we need and depend on eachother through our bright and less bright times. I believe that we all need one another to live out the best version of ourselves and this hunt drove that message home for me. I’m grateful for my family and friends and my new friends for the opportunity to experience the semi-perfect-raw-moments in the real places like this in my photos.
