See below for Halloween trick or treating advisory —
Dear residents of Springfield:
It is that time of year again and Halloween is just days away.
In that Tooker Avenue and Halloween have become synonymous for huge gatherings of people participating in trick-or-treating, as we did last year, we will be implementing restrictions on street access, allowing only residents living within the barricaded area to enter. Pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid walking on the streets due to ongoing traffic concerns.
Here is what will happen this year:
• Digital message boards will be placed near the intersection of Mountain and Tooker Avenues and near the intersection of Baltusrol Way and Briant Avenue. These boards will clearly state that only residents will be allowed to access the barricaded zone and that residents must present identification showing their address. Those without proper ID will not be allowed to enter with their vehicles.
• The message boards will also remind pedestrians to stay out of the roadway.
• Barricades will be set up at the intersections of Tooker Avenue with Mountain Avenue and Tooker Avenue with Lyons Avenue. Officers will be stationed there to check the IDs of drivers. Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft will not be permitted to drop off passengers within the barricaded zone.
• No Parking signs will be posted on both sides of Tooker Avenue prior to October 31st.
• Police vehicles will patrol Tooker Avenue to ensure that pedestrians do not enter the roadway, and as with many areas within the Township on Halloween, there will be an increased police presence in this area to enhance the safety of pedestrians and the protection of public and private property.
• Pedestrians are reminded that the roadway is for local vehicular traffic and to use extreme caution as vehicles may also be utilizing driveways.
This plan will be implemented from 3 PM to 8 PM.
