Family preservation refers to the ways we can keep families together and help them thrive.

By offering family‑focused prevention for parents facing crisis, the goal is simple and powerful: strengthen parenting, stabilize family functioning, keep children safely at home, and prevent unnecessary involvement in foster care.

Many families, even when doing ‘all the right things,’ are just one crisis away from major instability in their lives. Under-resourced communities leave families in the throes of hospitalization, unemployment, incarceration, substance abuse recovery, and other crises related to poverty without the resources and support to care for their children.

Every day, families wake up to a crisis they cannot handle, and their ability to both weather the storm and protect their children is threatened. Safe Families for Children (SFFC) was founded to solve this problem. We want to be that extended family when parents need us the most!

At Safe Families, we believe relationships are key in supporting families facing crisis. While resources are vital for families navigating difficult circumstances, it is also important for families to know they are not alone!

As we head into this long weekend, I hope you’re able to slow down a little, enjoy your family, rest, laugh, eat some good food, and make a few memories together.

Labor Day is a time set aside to recognize the contributions and hard work of workers and it also makes me think about all the people in our community who work every day to keep their families going. Parents working, providing, caregiving, problem-solving, and sometimes simply doing everything they can to make it through a difficult season.

And sometimes, even the strongest families need a little support. ❤️

Maybe you have a little extra time, encouragement, or friendship to give. You don’t have to become a Host Family to make a difference. You can become a Family Friend, a Resource Friend, provide respite, or simply walk alongside a parent who needs someone in their corner.

As you enjoy your family this weekend, maybe take a moment to think about how you could come alongside another family in our community.

💕Beautiful Baby girl came into this world this morning 💕

We have a wonderful host family who has stepped up and said YES to opening their home to a newborn baby. 🍼💖Now we need our community to help us make this hosting possible!

We are looking for someone who can provide daytime childcare four days a week, approximately 8:00 AM–2:00 PM, beginning September 16th.

Maybe you’re able to help, or maybe you know a trusted childcare provider, stay-at-home parent, retired caregiver, or someone else who may be willing to step in and support this family.
