Lucky Fields

This our last batch of birds for the season! They’ll be heading off to freezer camp next week and will be all ready for market on Saturday! We have 12 extra large chickens for sale and will have them ready for the fall soup season!

Kitchen garden soup! A few veggies from the garden, a package of Vermont Salumi Italian sausage, some Hurricane Flats beans and some homemade chicken bone broth. This delicious and nutritious meal filled us up and made us all feel so nourished after a wild week of honestly eating pretty poorly. thanks mary arnold for this beautiful bowl. It really makes so many of our meals!

This is a particularly crazy week for us. We processed 267 birds yesterday (thank you Em and the Honey Field Farm crew for coming down to do such amazing work!) today Bob and I will be doing our normal chores and cutting and packaging all of those birds. Tonight we will catch 320 more birds and bring them to the USDA processor and I won’t be home until Wednesday night. It’s a little wild and totally worth it! But…. We are still parents and have the coolest kid ever so sometimes you just need to temper the insanity with a To Do list that looks a bit like this. see you this afternoon Sugar Bob’s Finest Kind | Vermont Maple Syrup

We had a juvenile hawk get one of our ladies yesterday. Now we’re on a mission to find that hawk a new home. Rosie and I made this scarecrow… or scare hawk as the case may be and so far, it seems to be fooling at least one of us!
