What a phenominal day of joint training with the Springfield Fire Department Explorer Post 300!

Last weekend our Explorers had the opportunity to train alongside Explorers from the Macomb Police Explorer Post #4044 at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center (MCLETC).

The joint training event focused on interoperability, communication, and teamwork as explorers navigated several use-of-force scenarios.

By training as one team, across agencies, our Explorers learned how to adapt, support each other, and operate effectively in rapidly-evolving situations.

We’re extremely proud of the teamwork, critical thinking, and professionalism all these future leaders continue to demonstrate. 💪

Effective communication is a critical skill in law enforcement.

During our most recent meeting, Explorers participated in several practical exercises using 10-codes and the phonetic alphabet to clearly and concisely relay information. These drills emphasized accuracy, brevity, and confidence—skills that are essential in real-world situations.

Communication didn’t stop there. Explorers then put those skills to the test while working as a team to clear a large commercial structure, demonstrating the importance of clear verbal coordination, situational awareness, and teamwork in a dynamic environment.

In law enforcement, communication isn’t just talking—it’s a safety tool, a leadership skill, and a foundation for effective policing.

During our last meeting of the semester, advisors reviewed fi****ms safety, weapons handling skills, and put explorers through several hands-on scenarios that reviewed curriculum from throughout the semester.

Each scenario reinforced trust in the team and confidence in decision-making. Training like this prepares Explorers to think critically, communicate effectively, and operate safely.

Strong teams aren’t built by chance—they’re built through purposeful training and repetition. 💪

Low Light Training! 💡

Two of our Advisors recently had the opportunity to guest lecture on low-light tactics to the Macomb Police Explorers on the WIU campus. 🌙🔦

The Explorers received hands-on training on techniques for staying safe at night — and everyone crushed it. Awesome energy, great questions, and a ton of learning all around! 👏

Always cool to see different posts working together to improve their skills. We look forward to collaborating more in the future! 💪

Last night’s meeting gave our explorers an inside look at two incredible tools used in modern law enforcement — K9 units and drone operations! 🚁🐕‍🦺 🚓

Our team got to see firsthand how K9 officers assist in tracking, detection, and suspect apprehension, and how drones provide vital aerial support for searches and scene security.

Big thanks to the Deputies and handlers who took the time to demonstrate their skills and share their expertise! Also, a huge shout-out to the Rochester Police Department for their help and the Rochester Fire Protection District for hosting us!👏

Tuesday night, Explorers received training to recognize and investigate incidents of domestic violence. During the meeting, the group discussed resources available to victims, reviewed applicable state laws, and practiced handcuffing techniques. Training culminated with scenarios where Explorers worked together as a team and applied what they learned.
