Last of my posts showing off this beautiful session of The Almany Family.

You might’ve noticed that in some of my recent posts, I’ve started incorporating new background elements — like mountains — into my photos (like the first photo in this post). What many people don’t realize is that photo editing is actually a standard part of the process in professional photography. Whether it’s removing distractions, adjusting lighting, smoothing out textures in the skin, etc. Photoshop is a tool we use not to deceive, but to enhance and tell a story.

In my case, I don’t add these elements because the photos need them — they’re beautiful on their own. I do it because I enjoy the creative process, and it’s a way for me to push my skills further. It’s something extra I love to offer my clients, and many have actually requested these edits once they’ve seen them.

Of course, I always deliver the original versions too. But not everyone has the time or budget to travel to a place like Colorado just to get that dramatic mountain backdrop. This kind of editing lets me bring a little bit of that magic to them. And yes — it takes time! The first photo I did like this took around 7 hours to complete.

As a graphic design student, I’m constantly learning new techniques, especially in Photoshop. Being able to merge what I’m learning in school with my photography work has been incredibly rewarding. While the edited version might not be as “authentic/real” in the traditional sense, it’s still true to the emotion and beauty I want the photograph to convey. For me, it’s about creating something beautiful and imaginative within the photo itself, telling a story.

For this photo it was to show the beauty and emotions surrounding a family who is adding another member to their family. The love they have for their first baby, the glowing pregnant mother, the proud father, and the beautiful scenic background surrounding the family.
