Two members of the Springdale Fire Department recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to participate in SAREX 2026 (Search and Rescue Exercise) as part of the Arkansas Helicopter Rescue Team (AHRT).

AHRT is a specialized team comprised of personnel from the Springdale, Fayetteville, and Rogers Fire Departments, working alongside the Arkansas Air National Guard. Throughout the week, participants trained in a variety of realistic rescue scenarios involving helicopter operations, search missions, and technical rescue techniques.

Exercises like SAREX help ensure rescue personnel remain prepared to respond to complex emergencies, natural disasters, and rescue incidents throughout Arkansas and the surrounding region.

Training opportunities like this provide valuable experience that cannot be replicated in a classroom setting. By working alongside partner agencies and practicing in challenging environments, firefighters continue to build the skills, teamwork, and confidence needed to serve their communities and assist with specialized rescue operations whenever they are needed.

On March 22nd, 2026, Telecommunicator Kate Morris received a 911 call for a patient who was in cardiac arrest. Kate used Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols to administer CPR instructions to the caller, who performed quality CPR until responders arrived on scene. After responders arrived on scene, the patient experienced return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and was transported to the hospital.

Today, Kate was presented with a Life Saver Award and attached a leaf to the Communications Center’s Tree of Life in recognition of her life-saving instructions.

Memorial Day Murph complete. Proud of the SFD members and families who showed up, put in the work, and honored the fallen together.

Big thanks to Springdale High School for allowing us to use their facilities for this year’s workout. Never forget the reason behind the Murph and the sacrifices made by so many.
