Always good when a plan comes together: retrieved a swarm in Roselawn tonight that had taken over a shade umbrella. The homeowner had me take the whole umbrella away, which I used as a nice insulating cover for some nucs I made up yesterday. Hopefully it will get them through this late cold snap.

A most challenging swarm...They picked a very inaccessible corner! But I got them now, and they are in a new cozy box with a feeder.

First cutout of 2020! I was working alone, so I couldn't get a lot of pictures (too sticky), but it was a good sized hive for sure. I filled 10 deep frames with brood comb and had a tote bucket full of wonky combs, plus about 8-10 pounds of bees in the vac.

Either I'm joining Daft Punk or... it's grafting day! This is the earliest I've ever tried this, but there are drones in the hives, the flowers are blooming, and most importantly, I have the week off!

Drones in the hives, queen cups built, a few reports of swarms already coming in... that mild winter is pushing things forward a bit this year! Might be doing grafting sooner than I thought.
