Few venues in Texas history have had the cultural impact of Gilley’s. Located in Pasadena, Texas, just southeast of Houston, Gilley’s began in 1971 as a partnership between country music entertainer Mickey Gilley and entrepreneur Sherwood Cryer. What started as a local honky-tonk quickly grew into a Texas institution and eventually became known around the world as the “World’s Largest Honky-Tonk.”
