Our Executive Director, Sandra Rocco-Melville, is a finalist for Nonprofit Executive of the Year at the San Diego Business Journal's Nonprofit Leaders Awards. Noah Homes’ success greatly stems from Sandra’s influence and role at the organization: providing exceptional care for residents, offering mentoring and training opportunities for staff, activating strategic and creative fundraising, cultivating new board members for the Noah’s Ark Angel Foundation, and maintaining proactive partnerships with disability organizations.

Noah Homes' oldest resident, Christy, recently celebrated her 80th birthday with all of her friends! Christy first moved into Noah Homes in April of 1999, and is the oldest of three siblings (her brother, Scotty, lives at Noah Homes, too). She's a loving, sweet woman who loves to do puzzles, go on walks, and spend time with her friends. At her celebration, she had three(!) birthday cakes, and also enjoyed her favorite food, chicken fried steak.

When public schooling ends at age 22 for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, a shrinking social circle and support system has families wondering what to do next.

We sat down with Noah Homes parent, Theresa McKenna, to learn about her daughter Heather's path to Noah Homes, which began with Noah's PERCH, our social club for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day. Did you know? In 2017, Noah Homes opened the first two memory care homes in the state of California for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities: Casa de Lauridsen and Casa de Amor. We also offer an at-home day program, the Life Enrichment Day Program, for the residents in our Memory Care Homes.

It's the first day of Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week! This special week (which runs from September 13 to 19) is for celebrating the passion and work DSPs do to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our community.

Today, we'd like to highlight Casa Supervisor Mellissa Johnson (pictured with resident Christina), who was nominated for the 2026 Direct Support Professional Empowerment Awards (awarded by the California Disability Services Association/CDSA). Mellissa shows up every day and is prompt. She understands that consistency in care is critical. It helps foster trust. She empowers individuals and families served, as well as her peers. She accomplishes this by being a resource, by proactively guiding others, by taking initiative and problem-solving, and by prioritizing the needs of others.

“I’m very proud of how far I’ve come in just 3 years. Proud of how I’ve made such great connections with the folks in my house, and other folks in the community. It really truly is like my second family. When I’m bored at home, I want to come to work! I love working here and I enjoy everything about it," says Mellissa.

We are grateful for Mellissa’s service, heart, patience, and ambition in providing a high quality of care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our Facilities Team has gained a new member, Casa de Lauridsen resident, Craig! Craig's been having a great time helping our team with various projects around the Noah Homes property, like taking out the trash and recycling. Great job, Craig!
