Big Oaks Resort Update June 16, 2026
1. Electrical Work Today
Withlacoochee River Electric has arrived and will be working in the back section of the Resort today.
Areas expected to be affected include Aruba, St. Kitts, and possibly the far end of Key West.
During any power interruptions, residents and guests are welcome to relax, work, read, or visit in the Windjammer, which will be powered by generator and kept much cooler and more comfortable throughout the outage.
2. Juneteenth Holiday Notice
Please note that Friday, June 19, is Juneteenth, a Federal Holiday. There will be no mail delivery, and the Resort Office will be closed for the day.
3. Laundry Room Notices
Please do not post notes, signs, or announcements in the laundry room that have not been approved by the Resort Office. This helps ensure that information shared with residents is accurate and up to date.
4. Security Gate Update
The Security Gate should be operating as expected tonight. Please make sure you have your gate pass with you when entering or exiting the Resort.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue making improvements throughout the Resort.
Good News!
The computer board was installed into the Security Gate this morning and should be up and working again
in. Don't leave your Gate Pass behind, hopefully you will be using it this evening.
⚡ Electrical Project Update – Monday Morning ⚡
The electric company is back on site this morning and continuing work in the back section of the Resort. As crews complete the remaining upgrades, power interruptions can be expected throughout the day in affected areas.
For your comfort and convenience, the Windjammer will be powered by generator and available for anyone who would like to relax, read, socialize, or work during the outage. Feel free to stop by and enjoy the air conditioning while the work is being completed.
The good news is that we are getting very close to the finish line! 🎉 These improvements will help provide a more reliable electrical system for the Resort, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project wraps up.
Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility throughout this process. We will continue to keep everyone updated as work progresses.

🚰 WATER SYSTEM UPDATE 🚰
Good news! The Emergency Water Management Crew has arrived and completed a temporary repair to restore water service.
A permanent repair is scheduled for Monday.
The crew has tested the system and feels there should be no further issues at this time.
As water service returns to normal, some residents may experience air in their lines or slightly discolored water. If this occurs, simply run your faucets for a few minutes until the water runs clear, as is normal after a water system repair.
According to the Water Management Crew, a boil water notice is NOT mandatory at this time.
If you experience any issues with water service or do not have water at your site, please contact Timothy or Pete immediately so we can address the problem as quickly as possible.
Thank you to Pete and the Water Management Technician for the late night service call! We ask for your cooperation and patience; expecting all final repair will be completed Monday morning.
Timothy
🚨 WATER SYSTEM UPDATE 🚨
We are currently experiencing water issues throughout the Resort.
Pete did his best to resolve the problem, but unfortunately the issue requires specialized repair. An emergency water service crew has been called and is expected to arrive within the next 30–45 minutes.
Please know that we are aware of the situation and are working to restore water service as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while repairs are being made.
Once water service is restored, you may experience air in the lines and some brownish or discolored water. If so, simply run your faucets for a few minutes until the water clears.
At this time, we have not received any official boil water notice. However, until we receive confirmation from the repair crew and water authorities, it would be wise to take normal boil-water precautions for drinking, cooking, and food preparation.
We will provide another update as soon as repairs are completed and we have additional information to share.
While this is certainly inconvenient, we are fortunate the issue occurred during the evening hours rather than during the morning peak water usage period.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Timothy
This is how you move a shed from one side of the Resort to another. Good friends, Tractor and a lot of ingenuity and planning!
It appears the electric company will not be back to the Resort until Monday, we will update if anything changes.
🔌 Electrical Project Update – Thursday
The power company is winding down their electrical improvement project throughout the Resort and we are finally seeing the finish line!
Today, residents in the far end of Key West, all of St. Kitts, and the Aruba sections should expect temporary power outages while the final work is completed. The good news is that these outages are not expected to be lengthy.
The Windjammer will be hooked to a generator during the power outage and is available for your convenience during any outage period. Feel free to come relax in the air conditioning, read, work, visit with friends, or simply escape the heat.
🐾 Pets are welcome in the Windjammer as long as they are supervised and under your control.
🥤🍪 Food and beverages are also permitted in the Windjammer, so bring your favorite snack and make yourself comfortable.
Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this important project. We appreciate everyone's cooperation as the power company completes these much-needed upgrades to our electrical system. :::
Hopefully today's work brings us one step closer to having this project completely behind us! 🔌😊
🚨🎂 BIG OAKS BIRTHDAY ALERT! 🎂🚨
Who knows what tomorrow is?
It's none other than the birthday of TWO of Big Oaks' most valuable assets — Candi and Jim! 🎉🎉
Now, some people celebrate a birthday once a year. These two decided to celebrate on the same day, making it much easier for the rest of us to remember... and much harder for them to avoid all the attention!
While birthdays are a time for cake, presents, and reminding ourselves we're still younger than the Resort's oak trees, it's also a perfect time to recognize the amazing job both of them do all year long.
Candi somehow manages to keep the office running, answer countless questions, handle reservations, solve problems, juggle paperwork, calm the occasional crisis, and still greet everyone with a smile. We are fairly certain she possesses superpowers, though she continues to deny it.
Jim may not be here during the summer months, but don't think for a minute he's sitting around relaxing! He's already hard at work planning activities, events, and fun for our upcoming winter season. If you've enjoyed an activity at Big Oaks, chances are Jim had something to do with making it happen. Rumor has it he spends his summers searching for new ways to keep us entertained and finding fresh opportunities for Resort Family to laugh, compete, and create memories.
Together, they help make Big Oaks the special place we all love to call home.
So tomorrow we celebrate not only their birthdays, but also their dedication, hard work, and the countless hours they invest in making our resort successful.
Please join me in wishing Candi and Jim a very Happy Birthday! May this next year bring you good health, happiness, many accomplishments, and the ability to overcome whatever challenges come your way.
And remember, if you see either of them tomorrow, wish them a Happy Birthday. If you happen to see cake, please report its location to management immediately. 🍰😄
Happy Birthday, Candi and Jim! Thank you for everything you do for Big Oaks! 🎉🎈🎁🥳
date – Tuesday, 11:30 a.m.
Due to unexpected mechanical issues experienced by the power company, the work scheduled for the Resort Office was not completed this morning as originally anticipated.
Crews are currently working in the Key West area of the resort. If your power was interrupted earlier this morning, it should now have been restored. If you are in Key West and still had power throughout the morning, your power is either currently off or will be going off shortly as crews replace the next utility pole and wiring.
The power company plans to begin work on the Resort Office area tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. The good news is that this work should have minimal impact on sites throughout the resort, with only a possible interruption in portions of the Bahamas area. Power to the Resort Office is expected to be restored by approximately 10:00 a.m.
Tomorrow, crews will also continue working toward the end of the Key West section and into the back areas of the resort. The outage required for this work typically lasts about four hours. If you were not affected today in Key West, St. Kitts and Aruba, tomorrow will likely be your turn.
As always, the Windjammer and Resort Office will remain available for residents who need a cool place to work, relax, or enjoy the air conditioning. We have a generator to supply power to the Windjammer during the power outages in the St. Kitts and Aruba Section.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as this important infrastructure project continues. We will keep everyone updated to the best of our ability as new information becomes available.
