New & Noteworthy Book Club: Under Story by Chloe Benjamin, Thursday Oct 15th at 6pm
“I was a huge fan of Benjamin’s last book, ‘The Immortalists’. Like that novel, this one has another big premise at the heart of the plot: what if a parallel universe exists where you can change the events of your past? Laurel is a mycologist, brilliant, married to her equally brilliant theoretical physicist husband, Eli. After the death of their child, they divorce, and Laurel seeks escape as a dishwasher at McMurdo Station, in Antarctica. The appearance of an odd phenomenon brings Eli to Antarctica also, to test his signature theory. I’ll leave the rest for you all to discover on your own. It has the otherworldly weirdness of ‘The City and Its Uncertain Walls’, but more accessible. Also the Antarctic escapism of ‘Where’d You Go Bernadette’, but different circumstances. I hope you’ll be as entranced by the story as she was!” -Mimi
