On Saturday 9/20 our Mountain Rescue Association team was in Snoqualmie Pass for their reaccredidation in ground search.
Minutes after receiving our passing grade for a mock search & rescue, we were contacted by Kittitas County Search & Rescue requesting help with an actual nearby rescue on Mount Catherine. An adult woman had sustained a leg injury and was unable to walk.
A team of 9 members from Spokane County Search & Rescue immediately responded to assist, and the two teams were able to get the woman down the mountain in a wheeled stokes basket.

SCSAR at a recent evidence search training near State Line

Just after midnight on 5/18, Spokane County Search & Rescue / Spokane County Mountain Rescue was requested to assist with a rope rescue on the Rocks of Sharon. Three teenagers were stuck approximately 75 feet up the rocks, and a 4th teenager was stuck 50 feet up after falling 20 feet and sustaining a leg injury.
Our team members were utilized to create the rope system for the injured 4th teenager, which was complicated by limited anchor points and inclement weather. We successfully lowered the injured teenager in a stokes basket with a firefighter attendant, while fire crews on scene also worked to rappel the 3 uninjured teenagers down. After completing the rescue, our personnel collected equipment and were able to rappel down themselves.
Weโd like to thank Spokane County Fire District 8, Spokane Valley Fire Department, and the Spokane Fire Department for the opportunity to work alongside their rescue crews. We hope this becomes the first of many opportunities to work together again in the future!
