🌳 Don’t Forget—Your Trees Are Thirsty! 🌳💧

With warmer weather here in Spokane & Coeur d’Alene, proper watering is one of the most important things you can do to keep your trees healthy and thriving.

🌱 Helpful watering tips:
• Water slowly and deeply—think long soak, not a quick sprinkle
• Focus on the root zone (not just near the trunk)
• Mature trees still need water during hot, dry periods
• Early morning or evening is best to reduce evaporation

Healthy trees start with strong roots—and consistent watering makes all the difference!

If you’re not sure how much water your trees need, our team at Bartlett Tree Experts is always here to help. 🌿

A Good Find

At the Forest to Frame event at Finch Arboretum, the trees themselves seemed to be part of the classroom.

Jeremy Schmidt, our Arborist Representative, set up his booth right beneath their canopy—Petri dishes neatly arranged, each one holding examples of leaf diseases and insects for curious young visitors to explore. As children gathered around, he handed out magnifying glasses, inviting them to look a little closer at the world most people pass by.

And they did.

One child wandered off, magnifying glass in hand, scanning bark, leaves, and branches with focused curiosity. Then came a call of excitement.

She had found something.

Jeremy walked over, and there it was—small, yellow clusters tucked carefully against the bark. Eggs. The kind most people would never notice.

But this was a good find.

They belonged to ladybugs—beneficial insects that help protect trees by feeding on pests. What might have looked small and insignificant was actually an important part of the ecosystem.

You could see it in that moment—the connection. A child discovering something real, something hidden, and understanding it mattered.

That’s what the day was about.

Not just teaching, but sparking curiosity. Not just looking, but truly seeing.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a magnifying glass—and a little encouragement—to discover something extraordinary.

The Mother Willow
By Arborist Representative, Jeremy Schmidt

They call her The Mother Willow—a tree that has quietly stood the test of time. For seven years, through two property owners, we’ve had the privilege of caring for her.

She carries a history in her branches: one strong, working cable still supporting her, while a logger chain and two broken cables hang as reminders of the past. Last year, while reducing the weight along her outer limbs, we discovered a raccoon’s nest—kits tucked safely within her canopy. We worked around them, respecting the life she holds.

She’s weathered recent high winds without failing—bending, but never breaking.

Now, we return to remove the old, hanging hardware and install properly placed cables to better support her future. It’s careful, thoughtful work—worthy of a tree like this.

She may be the most impressive tree in my territory—not just for her size, but for what she gives.

Pause beneath her, and you’ll understand.

Listen to all the wildlife.
