We envision a future where everyone in our community has consistent access to fresh, healthy food.

Food is community. Food is love. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆβœ¨

At Food For Free, we believe access to healthy food is a fundamental right. But building a truly resilient and equitable food system means making sure everyone in our neighborhood is nourished with dignity, care, and respect.

This Pride Month, Food For Free proudly celebrates and stands with the LGBTQ+ community in Greater Boston and beyond.

We work every day to break down barriers to food access because our community is strongest when all its members can thrive. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

Last week was a powerful reminder of how immediate food recovery can be, as we responded to sudden donation offers in real-time. πŸ’š

During commencement season at Harvard University, Food For Free recovered more than 200 leftover meals that would have otherwise gone to waste. We also stepped in to recover food from Clover Food Lab as they closed their doors, making sure as much food as possible could still nourish our community.

All of this food was picked up and delivered to our partner, Grant Manor, in a single day β€” turning potential food waste into immediate support for neighbors who need it.

That’s the power of direct impact: fresh, prepared meals and healthy groceries moving quickly from surplus to community tables, reducing waste while providing needed support in real time.

Good food should go to people, not landfills. πŸ½οΈβ™»οΈ

Community Partnerships That Grow Beyond Hunger πŸ’š

At Food For Free, our work doesn't stop at delivery. It takes durable collaboration to provide the ongoing stability our neighbors need to thrive.

Take Camfield Estates β€” a low-to-moderate income housing community in Boston where, for some residents, food insecurity is a daily reality. Through our partnership, we deliver fresh produce and staples that help individuals access nutritious options they might not otherwise afford.

🌱 ROOTED IN PARTNERSHIP

"Food For Free’s consistent delivery of fresh, high-quality produce and staple foods helps us provide nutritious options our residents might not otherwise be able to afford. This partnership reduces financial stress, improves health outcomes, and creates opportunities for residents to access food in dignified, supportive ways.
By operating with professionalism, flexibility, and genuine care for the communities they serve, Food For Free is a true partner in our work to build a healthier, more resilient neighborhood."
β€” John St. Cyere, Program Coordinator, Camfield Estates

When families receive fresh groceries, they get more than food β€” they get the breathing room to cover rent and utilities, while feeling supported by their community.

Moving 6.2 million pounds of food takes more than trucks and drivers. πŸš›

To truly address food insecurity, we need strategic partnerships, local leadership, and community-level change.

That's why our Senior Director of Operations, Tim Cavaretta, serves on the Steering Committee of the Boston Food Access Council – sitting alongside community advocates to learn what's working block by block, and to break down the barriers that keep families from accessing food with dignity and choice.

"Working with local food access leaders and community advocates on the Boston Food Access Council Steering Committee helps me see Food For Free's work in a broader context. It gives us a space to identify both resources and potential gaps in the food system, sharing information to better inform our program strategy and collaborate effectively with other organizations and government entities."

6.2 million pounds of food.
132,000 neighbors reached.
100+ community partners.

But our impact is about more than numbers. ❀️

At Project SOUP, Thursdays are popular β€” because that’s when Food For Free arrives with fresh produce, culturally familiar staples, and even a few β€œspecial treats.”

Instead of a one-size-fits-all pantry experience, families get something powerful: more dignity, more agency, more choice.

Your support helps us do the heavy lifting behind the scenes β€” refrigerated trucks, cold storage, and a network of partners β€” so our neighbors can access food that reflects their needs, preferences, and cultures.

Because hunger relief shouldn’t feel like an assembly line. Everyone deserves dignity, choice, and community at the table.

Help us give the power of choice back to our neighbors. πŸ’š
