EMMA SQUIRES, EVERYONE.

It’s rare to even get a photo with our best pal and Carlos’ mom Emma, much less the opportunity to brag about her to everyone we know! Last night Emma was honored at the gala as a History Maker, along with many other amazing Black Iowans!

She was the first black female athlete at the University of Iowa in 1972-74, playing basketball, softball, and field hockey. Emma has been a mentor to us in so many ways and in general knows how to do everything and can do it better and faster than anyone!

So next time you see her, tell her a big congrats and give her a big hug.

SUMMER IS SO FLEETING. This summer has been long and short, wild and rainy and so so beautiful and we can’t believe it is ending!!

We had to say many goodbyes this week to everyone on our crew who is heading back to school– which was quite a few this year! It’s been a great summer with a lot of joy and laughter on the farm, and we’re so grateful for the great energy everyone brought to the work.

Luckily we have a few more weeks of our Summer CSA season, and we will hang on to every beautiful day we have before fall strikes. Filled with a lot of gratitude this Sunday for all of our great people.

Oriana has been farming with us for YEARS and always has a great attitude, a calm and tender hand with the livestock, and talent for laughing in the face of adversity. She also somehow has the magical ability to rile the dogs up like nobody’s business. Oriana we love you and wish you all the best in your next steps and we’ll be rooting for you all the way!

When everyone color coordinates at the CSA pickup, you know it’s going to be a good night!

What’s something you hear at work every day?

For us, recently it’s been “oh sh*t, I forgot my egg cartons” 🤣

The start of CSA season has brought with it many winter stockpiles of egg cartons, for which we are glad!We can reuse egg cartons for direct to consumer sales and dang it feels good to keep these out of the landfills!! Egg cartons also cost about 30 cents each, a cost which can really add up over time. A win win for us all 😄

But DONT WORRY— if you forget your cartons when you see us… there’s always next time 😁
