It’s National Hispanic Heritage Month! The Spanish Culture Club, advised by Betsy Beveridge, has created a stunning hallway display at Solon High School to showcase Hispanic and Latino heritage in our school community and across Cleveland.

Students can explore local celebrations and places to eat, learn about Hispanic leaders in Cleveland, and get to know SHS students and staff with Hispanic and Latino roots. The display also celebrates Hispanic and Latino contributions to science, the arts, public service and more.

New this year, the club created a set of wings from the flags of Spanish-speaking countries. Students and staff are invited to stop by and pose for a photo!

The hallway display will remain up throughout National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Saturday is Tag Day!

On October 3, Solon High School music students will be out in the community from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for one of the Solon Music Parents Club’s largest annual fundraisers. Students from the band, choir and orchestra will go door to door, sharing a tag with a calendar of upcoming performances and an invitation to support our music students and programs.

Your contributions directly sustain opportunities for our award-winning music programs at Orchard, Solon Middle School and Solon High School. We’re proud that Solon has been recognized as a Best Community for Music Education for 13 consecutive years, a tradition of excellence made possible by our community’s support.

It’s Homecoming night! Neon lit up Stewart Field as students, staff, alumni, families and community members came together to celebrate what it means to be a Comet.

Congratulations to Homecoming King Spencer Kramer and Queen Izzie Khodakovsky, and to fellow Homecoming Court members Mia Dauria, Adriana Friedman, Ma’niyah Shoulders, Tre Mallia, Nicholas Medow and Pasha Zhbankov!

A conversation at lunch, a kind note from a classmate, a greeting from someone new. Students across Solon City Schools found simple ways to help one another feel welcome throughout Start With Hello Week.

At Lewis, students played “This or That” during lunch, a fun game where they chose between two options and shared their answers with classmates. At recess, they added positive messages to a kindness chain that will be displayed in the hallway.

Roxbury students “chalked it out” at recess by covering the pavement with encouraging messages about kindness and friendship. Earlier in the week, they wrote complimentary notes to classmates, learned the name of someone new and wore green to show their support.

At Orchard, Team Day encouraged students to wear jerseys representing their favorite teams and use them to start conversations. Students also participated in “This and That” at lunch and wore name tags to help them greet one another by name throughout the school day.

As Start With Hello Week comes to a close, these small moments of connection are helping build a sense of belonging in our schools. When students feel known, welcomed and valued, they can feel more comfortable asking questions, trying new things and learning alongside their peers.

We’re proud of the ways our students put that message into practice across the district.

If you live in Solon or Glenwillow and your eighth grader currently attends a private or parochial school, we invite you to visit Solon High School on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 8 to 10:35 a.m.

Students will meet school counselors and administrators, learn about academics and activities, and shadow a ninth grader for two class periods. Parents and guardians may also take a guided tour of the high school.

This is the only student shadowing opportunity offered during the school year. Join us to meet our community and discover what SHS has to offer students considering enrollment in fall 2027.

Solon Middle School students are helping create a culture of belonging during Start With Hello Week.

Start With Hello encourages students to reach out, start conversations and build connections so everyone feels included and valued. Throughout the week, students across the district are participating in activities centered on kindness and belonging.

Today, SMS students wore green, the official color of Start With Hello, to show their support. At lunch, they visited a photo booth and played trivia and bingo with their tablemates. The games sparked conversations and encouraged students to share their interests, discover what they have in common and get to know one another better.

Solon City Schools is celebrating Start With Hello Week as part of our commitment to creating safe, welcoming school communities. Throughout the week, students across the district are exploring how simple acts of kindness can strengthen their sense of connection and belonging.

At Parkside, students and staff wore green, the official color of Start With Hello Week. Each grade level participated in age-appropriate activities for practicing social inclusion. Among the activities, students learned how to say hello in different languages and received secret "kindness missions" from a confidential envelope.

The missions encouraged thoughtful actions such as complimenting a classmate, holding the door for someone, making eye contact during a conversation or showing others they are listening.
