🌅 GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE! 🌴🌀

With the possibility of some not-so-great weather heading our way, now is the time to start getting prepared. We may not have a precise landfall location yet, and we don’t have a lot of time to prepare, so let’s not wait until the last minute!

One thing we learned from the last storm is that a storm doesn’t have to hit us directly to impact us. 🌧️💨 Tornadoes can spin up well away from the center of a storm, and we can experience some very strong, damaging winds even if the storm takes a different path than expected.

And for those of us living around our canals and waterways, there is another concern. 🌊 Water levels are already high in many of our canals, so we need to be prepared for the storm surge this system could bring. Depending on the storm’s path and strength, water could come over decks and low-lying areas and may contribute to flooding in some locations. If you live near the water, now is the time to start thinking about what you need to move, secure, or protect.

A few things to do TODAY:

🎃 Put away those fall & Halloween decorations. If you already have them out, it might be a good idea to bring them inside until the weather passes.

🪑 Secure or bring in outdoor furniture, umbrellas, plants, flags, signs, trash cans and anything else that could become airborne. Think about what could fly around in 60–100 mph winds and get it secured now.

🚤 If you live on the water, check your boats, lifts, docks and outdoor equipment. Make sure everything is properly secured and protected from rising water and strong winds.

🌊 Be mindful of rising water. If you have belongings stored on decks, patios, docks or in low-lying areas, consider moving them to higher ground now rather than waiting.

🔦 Prepare for a possible power outage. Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, portable chargers and anything else your household may need.

🥫 Grab some easy-to-eat meals and snacks that don’t require electricity or much preparation. Don’t forget water!

⛽ Top off your vehicles and take care of any important errands sooner rather than later.

📱 Keep your phones charged and make sure you’re receiving weather alerts from reliable sources.

🏠 And most importantly, don’t wait until the storm is knocking on the door to prepare. Even if the forecast changes—and we hope it does—it’s better to be ready than scrambling at the last minute.

🇺🇸 GOOD MORNING & HAPPY THROWBACK THURSDAY! 🇺🇸

Before he was my dad, he was a soldier. Before he was a soldier, he was a man who would spend his entire life learning how to take care of people.

Today’s throwback is one of my favorite pictures of my dad during his time as an Army Military Police Officer. My favorite cop. ❤️👮‍♂️🇺🇸

Looking at this picture brings back so many memories and makes me realize just how lucky I was to be raised by this man.

He was strict. He was prepared. He was a leader. And he was an incredible father.

My dad was a Vietnam veteran who served 22 years in the United States Army. His military career took him to Korea, Germany, New Jersey, and various stateside assignments.

And let me tell you… this man ALWAYS had a story. 😂

He had an answer for everything. I honestly don’t remember ever hearing him say, “I don’t know.” If he didn’t know the answer, he was probably going to figure it out before you finished asking the question!

But what I think was really special was getting to see his military leadership outside of the Army.

When hurricanes came through and our family was dealing with the aftermath, I got to see firsthand how he cared for us in the same way he had cared for his troops.

He could navigate a disaster.

He knew how to stay calm, make a plan, figure out what needed to be done, and make sure everyone was safe. Somehow, he could turn complete chaos into something manageable.

That was just who he was.

After 22 years in the Army, he didn’t exactly sit around and retire. 😂

He became an Air Marshal for Pan American Airlines traveling all around the globe, then went into loss prevention for a retail chain, and eventually started his own small engine repair business.

Looking back, it’s pretty amazing to see his progression through life. He never seemed afraid of change. He simply found the next thing to do and gave it everything he had.

He drank a whole pot of coffee every day, stayed busy, loved telling jokes, loved making people laugh, and absolutely LOVED having a house full of people.

And Christmas was his favorite holiday. 🎄❤️

He was the nucleus of our family—the one who brought people together and somehow made sure everyone was taken care of.

I thank God for every single year I was given with him.

For the lessons.

For the stories.

For the laughs.

For the love.

For watching him lead.

And for simply getting to call him Dad. ❤️

He passed away at just 68 years old.

And there is one thing the funeral director said to me that I will never, ever forget.

He looked around at all of the people who had come to say goodbye and said:

“I’m amazed to see how many people are here for someone of his age.”

That sentence has stayed with me.

Because it told me something I already knew…

My dad mattered to people.

He had touched so many lives. He had made friends everywhere he went. He had helped people, protected people, taught people, made people laugh, and left an impression on just about everyone he met.

We used to joke that he had been around the world 3½ times and shaken everybody’s hand at least once. 😂🌎

And honestly… that’s probably pretty close to the truth.

His life was so much bigger than the uniform in this picture.

He was a soldier.

A veteran.

A leader.

A protector.

A husband.

A father.

A friend.

A storyteller.

A jokester.

And the heart of our family.

Today, I look at this picture and don’t just see an Army Military Police Officer.

I see my dad.

And I am forever grateful that God chose him to be mine. ❤️🇺🇸

🌞 GOOD AFTERNOON, SLIDELL! 🌞

It’s time for another Hidden History of Slidell! 🏡📜

A European Foothold That Would Become Slidell

The first recorded European presence near what would someday become Slidell occurred on March 28, 1699, when Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d’Iberville, camped on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain at Goose Point.

Fast forward to the 1700s, and a French colonial trading post known as Robert’s Landing had established itself along a bend of Bayou Bonfouca. The settlement consisted of a few scattered homes, a general store, and a small boat landing.

🚤 Before the railroad arrived, Robert’s Landing played a major role in supplying New Orleans with food and building materials. By 1875, as many as 18 schooners a day were leaving the Northshore docks carrying goods and supplies to New Orleans!

The area around Robert’s Landing continued to grow, eventually becoming home to a marine supply house, ferry service, sawmills, brickworks, a tar mill, and other industries.

🚂 Then came the railroad…

In 1881, the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad surveyed a route heading north from New Orleans. The railroad purchased 70 acres near Robert’s Landing for the industrial facilities needed to support railroad construction.

In 1883, the newly constructed railroad station was dedicated and named “Slidell Station.”

And just like that, another chapter in the story of our Camellia City began. 🌺

From French explorers and boat landings to schooners, railroads, and industry, Slidell has always been a place of movement, commerce, and opportunity.

I absolutely love learning these little pieces of history that helped shape the community we know and love today. ❤️

For some, tonight means getting together with friends, heading out for dinner, or just enjoying a relaxing Friday night. But for me, I know exactly where I’ll be… under those Friday night lights, cheering on my son and his team! 🏈💙

These are the moments I want to soak up. The cheering, the excitement, the nerves, the laughter, the late nights and all the little moments in between. ❤️ Because one day we’ll look back and realize these were the days we were making the memories we’ll never forget.

Saturday brings LSU Tiger football in Death Valley! 💜💛 And then Sunday it’s time for the Saints’ first game of the season in the Dome! ⚜️🖤💛

But even if football isn’t your thing, there’s still plenty happening around the area this weekend—and it looks like Mother Nature is giving us some beautiful weather to enjoy it! ☀️🌴

🇩🇪🍻 Good Morning & Happy Throwback Thursday! 🍻🇩🇪

It’s Oktoberfest season in Germany, and it got me thinking about some pretty special memories from growing up! ❤️

I happen to come from German heritage, and my dad made sure I learned a lot about our German roots. He taught me quite a bit of the German language growing up, and I even took three years of German in high school. I loved it so much that I participated in our state competitions for the language!

But some of my favorite German memories happened every year at our local American German Club’s Oktoberfest. 🇩🇪🎶🥨

My dad would take us every year, and we always had such an amazing time. There was music, food, dancing, fellowship, and just that wonderful German festival atmosphere that made it something we looked forward to every year.

When I was in high school, I got the opportunity to volunteer at the festival, and something pretty incredible happened…

The American German Club asked me to be the model for their upcoming 2008 Oktoberfest! 😲❤️

Of course, I happily accepted! And I even got to have my little sister tag along with me. 👭

They made posters, tickets, passes, and all kinds of printed materials featuring our faces. Looking back, it was such a huge honor and definitely one of those experiences I’ll never forget.

So this Throwback Thursday, I’m throwing it way back to my Oktoberfest days! 🇩🇪🥨🍻

It’s funny how the traditions and experiences from our childhood can become some of our most treasured memories. My dad gave me more than just a love for our German heritage—he gave me memories that I still smile about all these years later. ❤️

☀️ Good Morning, Slidell! 💙

It’s time for another little Hidden History of Slidell! 🏛️🌳

Have you ever wondered how Slidell got its name?

Our city’s story really began taking shape in the 1880s when the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad was being built between New Orleans and Meridian, Mississippi. The railroad surveyed and developed the area, and the first train arrived on October 15, 1883. 🚂

The station was named Slidell in honor of John Slidell, a prominent Louisiana politician, lawyer and businessman who served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. He later became a Confederate diplomat to France during the Civil War.

Here’s an interesting piece of the story: Baron Frédéric d’Erlanger, one of the railroad’s principal financiers, was John Slidell’s son-in-law. When the railroad station was established, d’Erlanger named it after his father-in-law. When the community was incorporated in 1888, the town took the name Slidell from that railroad station.

And just like that, the little railroad community that would become our hometown began its journey into the Camellia City we know today. ❤️

I absolutely love learning the stories behind the places we pass every day. There is SO much history right here in Slidell!

It’s officially the first day of fall! 🎃🍁 And while the weather here is still bringing us plenty of heat, I’m not complaining! 😎 We all know those cooler days are coming soon.

Before long, we’ll be trading flip-flops for boots, cold drinks for hot coffee, and these warm days for sweater weather! 🧡🍂🧣

There’s just something special about this time of year—the beautiful colors, football, festivals, cozy evenings, and everything that comes with the changing season.

So, I’m soaking up every bit of this sunshine while I can! ☀️
