The Southern University Alumni Slidell Chapter would like to thank everyone for their support of our Relaxation Basket Raffle. This basket was filled with items to help you relax, a gift card to The Woodhouse, lotions, aroma therapy items, and yes wine to help you unwind. Also several gift cards to restaurants and many more items.
The winning ticket was drawn at our Founders Day luncheon on March 8, 2026. The ticket was purchased by Mrs. Inga Tillison Hodge, we hope that Mrs. Tillison-Hodge is relaxing and enjoying her basket. Thank you again to the community for your SUpport. Without your SUpport our chapter could not provide scholarships and stipends to students attending Southern University.
If you were not able to SUpport this fundraiser, stay tuned there will be other opportunities to SUpport SU students.

On this day, 146 years ago in 1880 to be correct Southern University's doors opened with the goal of educating people of color. To celebrate this momentous occasion the Southern University Alumni Slidell Chapter attended church service at Greater Northshore Full Gospel Church in Slidell,La. We heard an uplifting spirit filled word from Bishop Taylor; after receiving a warm heartfelt welcome from everyone in the congregation. After church service the group fellowshipped over brunch at Sedra's Bistro. We shared 'Why Southern then, and more importantly why Southern now'. The group was of the consensus that Southern remains a special place in each of our hearts and we celebrate it's continued existence as we continue our chapter's mission of encouraging other's to attend SU.
As we celebrate 146 years of SU, we also reflected on our chapter's beginning over 50years ago serving this community. May the legacy of pride, tradition, and excellence continue.

The SU Alumni Slidell Chapter hosted it's Annual Pizza, Pretzels & Perspectives!! The event is chaired by our Student Recruitment & Retention Committee and Scholarship Committee. The goal of the event is for Alums and students to mingle in a relaxed environment, to offer mentoring, to hear each other's SU Perspectives. This year we invited prospective students, high school seniors that have expressed a desire to attend SU, six high school students attended. In breakout sessions the students learned how to look for scholarships, how to apply for scholarships, what scholarship opportunities existed, information on housing, Top Jags and the Honor's College. Six of our currently enrolled SUBR/SUNO students also attended. These students offered advice and tips to the high schoolers. We were also honored to welcome our 3 newest Alums to our chapter, these students graduated weeks before and we are so proud of them. The newest Alums were available for advice and tips and they were celebrated. The evening not only included food and advice but a high spirited game of SU Jeopardy, we learned about some of the enriched history of our beloved SU. The multi-generational group consisting of an SU graduate from the Class of 1958 to the recent graduates of Dec 2025 and high school students all enjoyed a game of "What to wear where?" The goal of this game was to guide our youth on the importance of appropriate dress for various occasions. Each student left with knowledge, our currently enrolled students were given a financial token to help them along the way this semester. The SU Alumni Slidell Chapter would like to congratulate our own, Mr. Craig Pierre on being named Mr. Kappa Man of the Year!! We are SU proud!!

In true Southern style the members of the SU Alumni Slidell Chapter collected can goods at their Christmas Social and donated the goods to the Mt Olive AME Church Feeding Ministry. The feeding ministry provides nutritious hot meals to those in need. Great job SU Slidell helping the community! 🩵💛

Each year, the Slidell Southern University Alumni Chapter offers scholarships to students who plan to attend any of the campuses in the Southern University System (Southern University Baton Rouge, Southern University in New Orleans, and Southern University in Shreveport). In addition, we provide scholarships to students already in attendance at any of the campuses, as well as provide assistance to those enrolled who follow specific guidelines for students living within the Slidell, La., Lacombe, La., and Pearl River, La. areas.
This year, we have a fundraiser to raffle off a 'Relaxation' basket. The basket is full of items to help you relax, a gift card for a massage, gift card(s) to restaurants, candles, lotions, 8 bottles of spirits, and so much more. Tickets are only $5.00.
