Before You Were Formed, God Knew You | Jeremiah 1:5

Before a single day of your life had been lived, God knew you.
In Jeremiah 1:5, God tells Jeremiah:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”
Jeremiah’s calling began long before Jeremiah understood it. God knew who he was, knew the purpose He had for him, and called him according to His plan.
That truth should change how we think about our lives. Our identity isn't something we have to manufacture for ourselves. Our purpose isn't determined by culture, popularity, success, or the expectations of the world. God knows us, and His plans come before ours.
This message is part of our Who Wrote the Bible? series at Community Evangelical Church as we look at Jeremiah, the prophet God called to speak His Word during one of the most difficult periods in Judah's history.
Before Jeremiah could object that he was too young, inexperienced, or unprepared, God reminded him of something greater:
God knew him. God set him apart. God called him.
The same God is still at work today.

What is the greatest threat facing the Church today?
It isn't politics. It isn't culture. It isn't persecution. It isn't what is happening outside the Church.
The greatest threats have always come from within.
The book of Jude warns believers about false teachers and influencers who distort truth for personal gain. Thousands of years later, his warning remains just as relevant. In a world filled with podcasts, platforms, book deals, and celebrity Christianity, it has never been easier to elevate personalities over truth and preferences over Scripture.
The Church was never commissioned to build brands. We were commissioned to make disciples.
When our focus shifts from God's Kingdom to our own influence, from equipping disciples to growing audiences, or from eternal priorities to earthly success, we have forgotten what we were called to do.
