Protecting our community starts with staying informed and knowing how to recognize the warning signs of a scam. SVPD encourages residents to remain alert and take time to verify unexpected requests.

Be cautious of individuals demanding payment through cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other unusual methods. Be equally cautious of anyone claiming to represent law enforcement, a government agency, a financial institution, a technology company, or someone you know. Residents should also remain alert to unsolicited home-repair offers, requests for sensitive personal or financial information, and threats demanding immediate action.

If you receive a suspicious call, message, or request, do not provide money or personal information until you have independently confirmed who you are dealing with. When in doubt, contact the organization or agency directly using a trusted phone number or official website.
