Cookout Gospel Hour

Too many times, truly great men are overshadowed by the worst examples of manhood. But every now and then, it’s worth stopping to celebrate the men who quietly got it right.

There was never a superstar, athlete, or celebrity I admired more than my dad.

Looking back at this photo from my high school graduation (many years ago), I’m reminded of the man who taught me (through his actions), what it means to be a man of God, husband, a father, a provider, and a man of character.

Yesterday, we spent time reminiscing, laughing, and telling stories. Moments like those remind me just how blessed I’ve been.

I’m thankful that he’s still here to see that knucklehead kid grow into a man he’s proud of. And if I’m honest, hearing my dad say, “I’m proud of you,” means more than any applause or recognition ever could.

I love you, Dad. Thank you for showing me the way.

Some weeks give us chances to gather, connect, and let the music do what words sometimes can’t.
