🗡️ The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas – Revenge served colder than your ex’s heart. If you haven’t read it… fix that.

🌪️ One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez – I got peer-pressured into reading it. Now I’m peer-pressuring you. Circle of life.

🐦 To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee – Borrowed it. Read it. Sat quietly for a week thinking about it. You should too.

🔍 Agatha Christie Mysteries – Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple are the OG detectives. Read a few, and you’ll always have something clever to say.

Today, Kampala hosted the International Conference on American Literature & Women Writers—bridging gender, culture & global narratives.

We honor storytellers like our own Lucy Chihandae’s coming of age novel ‘The World Is Ours’ embodies a lifelong love of books.

The highlight for me , at The , was meeting ‘Creativepreneur Tamika Newhouse ! 🥳
I had listened to snippets of her entrepreneurial journey , here and there, scattered on social media and I was excited/ impressed/challenged/awed/inspired ( whichever you think works) by her grit , ambition, enterprising skills and creativity in accomplishing what she had ; published nearly 300 books, mentor to hundreds of writers, developed AAMBC a powerful publishing media house and to tie it all neatly together; a black writers Festival.

All this started when she failed to find a publishing house able to publish her book at 21 yrs old and this vacuum on the industry unraveled her purpose, setting forth the chain of events listed above.👆🏾

So, when we spoke, I knew she would understand the journey I was on , the creative dream of a media powerhouse and the painful business of writing and publishing .

I did come to honor the woman behind the festival , experience the vision of her hard work unfold in several workshop rooms over three days and finally to share with her a part of my own 7-year-creative labor, ‘The World is Ours’.

Ms Tamika, Thank you for amplifying black voices , giving strength to black creatives and allowing them to shine in their purpose ! I hope you enjoy The World is Ours, a book about making dreams come true despite multiple drawbacks.

Let me introduce to you my dear friend and former landlady, Rain Zohav ; a marvelously artistic individual with a warm personality and a knack for humor.
When I wrote my book ‘The World is Ours’ , Rain bought my book and reviewed it as well !

She also then let me know she would be writing a book that she has always wanted to write and started right away . I was delighted and gave her all the information I had gleaned on my own journey.

Three years later, she announced on social media that her book ‘Eldersong’ was published and she was having a soft launch at her home.

I was exhilarated and ordered a copy !
When we talked about it , she told me I had inspired her to write on and my info had helped her along her own writing path.

Now I can’t even give credit to myself because Rain wrote this book through out COVID season , and in sickness being constrained because of long covid and other challenges … yet she made it happen!

she is a reminder that there is no time but now to do the things you love , there is no excuse good enough to procrastinate a dream!
