Today, we recognize Juneteenth and take time to reflect on the importance of community, dignity, and opportunity for all.
At Shepherd’s Table, we see every day how access to food, resources, and compassionate support can help people move forward. We remain committed to creating a welcoming space where our neighbors are treated with respect and have access to the services they need.
To celebrate the day, our kitchen team served a special BBQ lunch featuring marinated chicken thighs, steak tips, salad, collard greens and mac and cheese. We also brought out the ice pops to beat the heat!
Thank you to our volunteers, staff, and supporters who help make these moments possible throughout the year.

🌱 Have you heard of Moon Valley Farm?
Located in Woodsboro, Maryland, what began as a 3-acre farm has grown into a thriving 70-acre operation providing fresh, locally grown produce to hundreds of households and restaurants across Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia.
As a farm aggregator, Moon Valley Farm partners with other local growers to source a wide variety of products while serving as a central distributor. Through their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, restaurant partnerships, and school contracts, they are helping connect more people to fresh, nutritious food.
Recently, Shepherd’s Table Executive Director, Jan Weetjens, and Director of Meals and Innovative Programs, Christina Moore, met with farm owner, Emma Jagoza, and farm sales representative, Ann Gaydos to learn more about their work and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration.
We began purchasing eggs from Moon Valley Farm last summer, and we're excited to continue growing this relationship. Through CFA grant, they are helping us access more affordable fresh produce for those we serve.
Partnerships like this strengthen our ability to provide healthy meals while supporting local farms. We're grateful for Moon Valley Farm's commitment to building a stronger, more food-secure community.
