Sylvester was selected as a recipient of the 2026 Direct Support Professional Recognition Award by the Maryland Department of Disabilities and the Maryland Department of Health Developmental Disabilities Administration for his exceptional service and dedication to the people he supports.

Genevieve was recognized with a 2026 Annual Montgomery County Inter-ACC DSP AWARD by the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee for Developmental Disabilities, a Montgomery County coalition that works to strengthen community living, employment, and individualized support services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We are proud to celebrate Sylvester and Genevieve for the care, commitment, and partnership they bring to their work every day.

Rodney's commitment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is rooted in helping people be recognized for their strengths, build community, and pursue their goals. We are excited to see his voice help elevate the experiences of DSPs and the people they support across the country.

DSPs play a critical role in helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This lack of recognition makes it harder to track the workforce, understand its challenges, and advocate for solutions around recruitment, retention, and compensation.

Most people can name a teacher, coach, or mentor who made a difference in their life. Yet many have never heard the term Direct Support Professional (DSP).

DSPs are the people helping someone find work, build relationships, navigate their community, learn new skills, and pursue goals they’ve chosen for themselves.

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, a DSP can be the person who helps someone find a job, join a community group, learn a new transportation route, try something new, or have people who believe in their potential.
