🌸🪻🍋 Watch Lemonade Turn Pink Using Violets!
Springwell students created a natural pH indicator from violet extract and used it to transform lemonade bright pink in real time.
Through hands-on exploration, students investigate acids, bases, and chemical reactions while practicing careful observation, testing ideas, and sharing discoveries.
At Springwell, learning often begins with curiosity — sometimes sparked by something as simple as a flower.

✨ Springwell Student Showcase ✨
Our students shared their Winter Session learning with families — presenting projects, answering questions, and proudly showing the results of months of inquiry.
From communities and environmental adaptation to revolutions, migration, and the building blocks of life, students explored big ideas across disciplines.
We are so proud of their courage, curiosity, and growth.
Thank you to our families for showing up so warmly — it truly takes a village to raise these children. 💛

Upper Elementary: The Age of Industry and Apprenticeship ✨🛡️⚔️
Our Upper Elementary students have been diving into Civics through the lens of the Middle Ages—and bringing history to life with their hands!
Their hands have been full of knives, glue, paint, string, and ideas as they design, build, and create like true medieval artisans.
From wooden carvings and shields to miniature battle scenes, hand-crafted foods and sauces, swords, bows, katanas, and even books, their projects showcase creativity, craftsmanship, and deep learning.

Lower Elementary Learning in Motion! 🌪️🌀
📝 ELA: Students in Lower Elementary practiced writing letters, sight words, and digraphs through playful, hands-on activities using flower connectors, Play-Doh, chalk, Legos, and kinetic sand. They connected their Forces and Motion science unit to writing by using words such as push, pull, soft, hard, and shift.
🏎️💨 Math: Students extended their Forces and Motion learning by comparing how fast toy cars traveled on different tracks. Using blue dots, they measured and compared distances, created math problems, and discussed how heights and loops affected speed.
🪨🌿 Students explored how texture and weight influence motion by testing marbles, rocks, cubes, clipboards, and containers on different surfaces. Using K’NEX mobiles, students investigated pushing and pulling, discovering that light, smooth, or soft objects move more easily than heavy or bumpy ones. We compared movement across carpet, grass, sidewalks, and pavement, noticing that smooth surfaces, and slopes help objects travel further.

Halloween-themed Learning in Lower Elementary! 🎃🕸👻
📝 ELA: Our students explored spooky sounds and onomatopoeia with jars of rice, rocks, and cinnamon sticks—guessing sounds like thump! and ting! Then created puppet stories filled with boo! and knock knock! moments
➕ Math: Our students measured pumpkins 🎃, practiced addition and subtraction with Halloween objects, and built 2D and 3D shapes!
💬 SEL: Our students focused on Gentle Bodies—learning about personal space, kind gestures, and calming strategies like deep breaths and hugs.
🏘️ Social Studies: We wrapped up our Communities unit by brainstorming ways to make newcomers feel welcome and even designed our own “new school” spaces!
🎃
What better way to learn about Earth, Space, and Systems than to go there ourselves? Not actually--but through simulations and video games the Middle and 9th Grade class have been designing, testing, stimulating, and launching their own rocket! 🚀
The students are applying concepts like budgeting, making project proposals, design and engineering, the iterative process, and many ways of how not to build a rocket.
Included are some pictures of our planning process, screenshots of another game we used to learn about our solar system (Elite Dangerous), designing the satellite in Kerbal Space Program, and an illustration of the satellite we designed drawn by one of our own students! ✍🏼

🌍✨ Upper Elementary Update: Do The Evolution!
A huge thank you to our Annual Appeal donors for their generous support in providing the classroom materials that made our science investigations possible! Your contributions help bring our students' learning to life and fuel their curiosity every day.
Here's an update from Ms. Ileana's Upper Elementary classroom, where our students took on an ambitious journey in the life sciences—from the Big Bang to the remarkable diversity of life we see today.
💥 We began by exploring the origins of everything—the Big Bang—and how the fundamental building blocks of our universe came to be.
🔬 Building molecules: Students created hands-on models to bring invisible molecules to life.
👀 Microscope magic: A microscopic investigation of plant cells, hair samples, and even Mr. Sean’s hangnail! 😅 evolved into scientific illustrations of their observations, practicing both observational skills and scientific documentation.
🦠 Evolution in action: From Darwin’s finches to modern-day lactose tolerance, students explored how humans and other species have adapted over time.
🌌 Creative planet designs: As their final assignment, students invented their own planets with unique challenges and problem-solved how humans might adapt to survive in these environments. Their imaginative and scientifically grounded solutions demonstrate their growing understanding of the relationship between environment and adaptation. Talk about out-of-this-world thinking!
Our students are developing more sophisticated scientific thinking skills. They're asking more nuanced questions, making careful observations, and beginning to understand how to test their hypotheses. Perhaps most importantly, they're developing an appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things and our shared evolutionary history.

🚀✨ Springwell Upper Elementary Blasts Off! ✨🚀
Our students have been taking an inquiry-based journey through space—and it has ben out of this world! 🌍💫
From interpretive dance as the solar system 🪐💃 to stunning pastel space drawings 🎨, rocket launch simulations 🎮, and engineering airtight capsules, our classroom became a full-fledged space facility.
“This is fun!” declared every adult who stepped in—and they weren’t wrong! But beneath the excitement was deep scientific thinking, hands-on problem-solving, and real-world STEM applications.
🌟 Designing radiation-proof windows
🌟 Securing equipment for zero gravity
🌟 Creating airtight, life-sustaining chambers
🌟 Using AI to craft space mission logos
When kids are engaged, curious, creating, and having FUN they’re learning at the deepest level. 🚀💡
