This Disability Pride Month, we recognize the contributions of disabled, q***r activists like Barbara Jordan. Barbara was the the first African American to serve in the Texas Senate, and the first African American woman from a southern state to be elected to the House of Representatives (1973). She campaigned hard for voting rights, minimum wage laws, immigration reform, and the civil rights movement. Due to the homophobic attacks she endured throughout her career, Barbara was only out with her partner Nancy in private settings. And what many photos of her don't show you is that she also used a wheelchair later in life due to Multiple Sclerosis, which came on during her very first year in Congress. President Bill Clinton said that her health was the only reason he didn't nominate her for the Supreme Court. Pictured here in full color, Barbara Jordan is a q***r hero that we will never forget. Thank you for standing up for our southern siblings, Barbara!

Police and the LGBTQIA+ community are often at odds: Pride began as a riot against police brutality of q***r and trans folks. We want you to stay SAFE and avoid confrontation. If you do ever get stopped by the police, here are some things you should know. If you ever feel that your rights have been violated in an encounter with the police, contact us online so we can connect you with LGBTQIA+ allied legal advocates: https://liveinyourtruth.org/
