Our growing medium in the greenhouse is organic peat from Canadian supplier, Premier Tech Horticulture, a company recognized for responsible management of peatlands and peat bog restoration. 👏🏻

The peat compost is certified by the USDA National Organic Program for use in organic farming. We use and reuse this valuable resource - the peat goes through the greenhouse for one 30-day growing cycle, and then we apply it as a nutritious fertilizer to outdoor fields on the property where we’re working to build the soil for a future orchard.

We’re producing lush lettuces with a fraction (about 10%) of the water needed to grow greens on outdoor fields.

We love working at the intersection of good food and ag systems, and conservation. 💙

Meet one of our new team members, Ronnie! We’re grateful for his wide-ranging construction skills, ag experience and work ethic. Ronnie always goes above and beyond, offers his help to everyone and asks for feedback.

Originally from Waukesha,WI, Ronnie is our resident Cheesehead. After some good fun “back in the day” (skiing and bodysurfing in Hawaii!), Ronnie relocated to Silt in the 80s to commit to construction full time (he’s been involved in major bridge-building projects in Glenwood Springs and Snowmass). On winter weekends he’s often ice fishing with family at Ruedi Reservoir or Harvey Gap! 🎣

Have we shared lately all of the ways we are unique?

We grow our greens in organic compost, not nutrient-fortified water.

We return that compost to outdoor fields on the property that will eventually be organically farmed as well.

We produce just-cut, bite-sized blends of flavorful adult greens (not baby greens).

We started with the indoor farm, which is now the largest, certified organic automated greenhouse in the Intermountain West!
