To Me Abbey Road was a pilgrimage to a sacred and holy site.

Many of my heroes and influences in music, God rest their souls,

have passed through this doorway at one point or another in their career.

Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse

Frank Ocean, Radiohead, Elton John, my list is too long to put here.

I remember standing in this doorway

It was winter, jagged cold and wet on the streets of London.

For 21 days of my life on this earth

I got to enter this building and play with all the toys

and talk to all the ghosts inside.

I tried to talk to John Lennon, but Freddie kept getting

my attention.

John recorded imagine here. Andrew Butler

was playing that same grand piano.

I sang into that same microphone John sang the words “imagine no religion” into.

But Queen recorded albums in this room, Studio 3- they called it…

I remember discovering that I can sometimes sing as high as Freddie Mercury.

I remember wondering if I might sometimes write as deep as John Lennon.

I remember wanting Mike Notter and Nate Daley to open up the solos and rip as wide as Pink Floyd.

On a break I wandered into the drum chamber off the main room.

It was covered in mirrors, floor to ceiling. I saw countless echoes of myself like a Yayoi Kusama exhibit.

Our drummer, Forrest Mauvais preferred to play in the main room with us. Which suited me fine,

I found I could hold his perfect time if only I had eyes on him. We liked to circle

(best we could) the band into the same room for live takes of our most practiced songs.

We spent a day when we first arrived just playing the live versions of our tour set

Challenging each other to capture the perfect one-take. We were on our way to India,

halfway through a three month tour, popped off at London for a few shows and a crack at

abbey road.

I’m releasing the result of this beautiful experiment now because, well nostalgia…

but perhaps to me these songs have aged and cured and hardened over time.

Their message now seems to cut below the metanarrative into that place only

revolution-during-quarantine can bring you.

That and: “She is Spirit, Live at Abbey Road” stands in my heart as the best ever recording of Motopony,
probably forever. Produced by Rob Cass Thank you mate, for the pleasure and the privilege.

Letters to a young filmmaker-

I haven’t been very vocal here about my perspective of what’s going on in the world, but that’s because I believe the unsolicited advise I offered this young creative. Before I get all guilty and mighty on my podium on IG, I’ve been hard at work facing my own inner racism and sexism and privilege- it’s all in there - I can admit it and face it and make changes to overcome it in me...rather than in my feed. That inner work is the most important work I can do for this movement, and it takes time because it’s real work. That work has guided my life and my choices and will help keep me from just being a performative ally in the other ways I choose to stand with my fellow humans.

In 2015 we toured through London and had the extreme pleasure of recording live with Rob Cass in studio 3 at the legendary abbey road. I sang through a mic and vocal chain that “imagine” was recorded on. I’m happy to announce that after being lost for a time these recordings will be back up on Spotify next week !!! Stay tuned
