"I never try anything. I just do it. ... Wanna try me?"
Belted, Booted, Buckled, Badass: Tura Satana on Screen is going to be SO MUCH FUN. We'll watch Carol Burnett perform a Tura-choreographed st******se, Tura shouting her lines in a variety of bodysuits, Tura in a Billy Wilder film, Tura in sci-fi, spy-fi, and in absolutely unwatchable horror-fi, Tura with not one, but TWO girl gangs - one of them being in what John Waters referred to as, "beyond a doubt, the best movie ever made."
I hope you'll join me November 2nd for this SIFF Film Appreciation class celebrating the talents of the Kick-Ass and legendary Ms. Tura Satana. AND, as this is part of What The Femme! - a SIFF Education series exploring female-representing character archetypes in cinema through analyzing the roles of women in horror, science fiction, and fantasy films - we'll also talk about ways Satana subverted stereotypes about race, gender, and sexuality in post-WWII America, her personal triumphs over adversity, and her legacy to genre film.
Don't try it - just do it! Tickets at:

Thrilled to participate this morning in an in-depth conversation on the problems and potential of Wonder Woman being named a UN Honorary Ambassador with The Arkham Sessions's Dr. Letamendi and MPR News host, Kerri Miller. It was a great conversation about empowerment, symbols, politics, and gender!
Is Wonder Woman the right choice for a U.N. ambassador? The United Nations named the comic book character its new Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. Does it matter that she's fictional? Should it matter what she wears?
