Today, we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, bonus moms, caregivers, and mother figures whose love continues to shape families and communities in powerful ways.
We especially honor the women who have had to be strong while healing, nurture while rebuilding, and love others while learning to pour back into themselves. Your resilience, grace, and sacrifices do not go unseen.
May today remind you that you are valued, appreciated, and deeply deserving of the same care and compassion you so freely give to others.

Powerful Beginnings Mother’s Day Brunch is all about honoring the women who nurture, lead, and create impact in our lives every single day. It’s a space rooted in love, connection, and celebrating the strength it takes to show up especially for those who have had to rebuild and begin again.

In April 2026 alone, at least 13 Black women were killed by intimate partners or family members.
Let that sit with you.
These are not just headlines.
These are lives. Futures. Families changed forever.
As a survivor… and as someone who has spent over a decade advocating for those impacted by domestic violence… I need us to move differently.
Abuse does not start with violence.
It starts with patterns we’ve been taught to minimize:
Control that feels like “protection”
Isolation that looks like “love”
Words that slowly chip away at your confidence
Silence that keeps you stuck
We have to start recognizing the signs earlier.
We have to start having the hard conversations sooner.
And we have to create spaces where people feel safe enough to tell the truth about what they’re experiencing.
Because leaving is not simple.
And for many, it is the most dangerous moment.
This is why I created Powerful Beginnings.
We are here to support survivors with personalized safety planning, resources, and a community that removes the guilt and shame often attached to abuse.
We meet people where they are—because every situation is different, and every life matters.

Financial abuse doesn’t pause for the holidays.
During the holiday season, financial control can show up in subtle but harmful ways restricted access to money, forced debt, withholding essentials, or interference with work and income. These are not normal relationship behaviors; they are signs of abuse.
