I filmed this right before getting on stage at I wrote this song a long while ago about a long trip in my early 20’s. It felt appropriate to play on the tail end of a 4 week long tour that really was feeling fine! …and who the heck doesn’t like John Prine?

We pulled over somewhere off the 150 near Alamosa for this view, on our way to see the Sand Dunes. I think that’s Little Bear Peak in the background. I usually don’t take alternate routes on tour, but this drive was so beautiful!

I wrote this song almost 10 years ago now, which feels wild to say. I remember driving my little manual Tacoma across the country from Albuquerque to Dallas with the windows down, tapping on the steering wheel and amusing myself with silly lines.

It’s cool how a song can keep finding people years later. For a while I stopped playing this one, and a lot of my older songs. But almost every show someone asks me to play it, and at this point in my journey, I’m just excited anyone asks at all. It’s been fun revisiting these older tunes that sonically I’ve tried to move away from for a bit.

Anyway, here’s to the slow road of one million streams on “Carnival Cruise, Talkin’ Blues”. Thanks for listening!
