May is AANHPI Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.
This year’s theme, “Power in Unity, Strengthening Communities Together,” reflects the vibrant communities that help shape Bellevue and Redmond, where many residents identify as AANHPI.
With the 2 Line extension, it’s easier to explore the Eastside and support local AANHPI-owned small businesses along the way. Check out a few spots in Bellevue and Redmond!

New artwork is coming to Kent/Des Moines Station! 🚉 🎨
Beginning Monday, Sound Transit’s Art Program will install “Hand Me Downs,” a suspended sculpture by Tacoma artist Christopher Paul Jordan, in the KDM garage lobby.
To minimize passenger impacts, installation will take place overnight May 25–29 from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Riders may notice temporary activity in and around the garage lobby during these hours.
The artist has created a sculpture inspired by Highline College students exploring cultural resilience with fabric as a metaphor. Jordan’s public artwork has been commissioned by organizations including Seattle Art Museum, the City of Tacoma and Sound Transit.
We can’t wait for riders to experience this new addition to the station! More on the artist and artwork coming soon. 👀
