Divorce Mindset: How to Navigate Your Divorce Like a Professional
Join me and divorce coach Tracey Gramenz in a conversation about something that doesn’t get talked about nearly as much: How you actually work with your attorney can matter just as much as who you hire.
We’ll cover things like:
• How to identify your big-picture goals so you don’t end up spending thousands of dollars fighting over “side quests” that don't actually get you where you want to go.
• The nuts and bolts of working with your attorney—what your lawyer needs from you, what you should be asking, and how to use your legal team effectively.
• Some of the divorce terminology and assumptions that can really influence how people approach their cases, including “bulldog attorney,” “narcissist,” and “high-conflict ex.” We’ll separate what is actually useful from what may just create more conflict (and more legal bills).
• Whether you're just getting started or you've been in the process for a while, the goal is to help you step back from the day-to-day drama and make more intentional decisions about where to spend your time, energy, and money.

When lunch with a fellow attorney brings you to RBG… you stop, you look up, and you remember why you took on this work in the first place. ⚖️
We came for pizza and left with a reminder that showing up, doing the work carefully, and holding the line with grace still matters. The lace collar doesn’t hurt either. 😉
Huge thanks to for this stunning piece. Public art like this turns an ordinary utility box into a moment worth pausing for.

As adults, we wear so many hats.
Parent. Caregiver. Caretaker. Employee. Manager. Leader. The list goes on.
After a lovely night out last night, I found myself standing in the grocery store picking up bread and lettuce because tomorrow, the kids still need lunch, no matter what kind of day or night I've had.
It's a small moment, but it's also exactly why I do the work I do. As a cooperative/collaborative family law attorney, I see this same reality in every client who walks through my door. You're not just going through a divorce or separation — you're still the parent, the one who packs lunches, the one who shows up to work the next morning, the one holding it all together while also handling one of the hardest chapters of your life.
That's the heart of how I practice. It's not about adding one more fight to an already full plate. It's about resolving things with less conflict, less chaos, and more room to keep wearing all the hats you already wear — with a little more peace along the way. 🧡
Welcome to Shih Legal.
Why do I continue training in both litigation and collaborative techniques, even though Shih Legal no longer takes on litigated cases?
Because understanding both sides makes me sharper at the one I practice.
✔️ I know exactly what's at stake if a negotiation breaks down so I can help you avoid that outcome. ✔️ I recognize when a spouse is negotiating in bad faith, because I know what that looks like from the other side of a courtroom. ✔️ I bring real leverage and credibility to the table, even in a process built on cooperation, not conflict.
A peaceful divorce doesn't mean a naive one. It means having every tool available and choosing the one that serves your family best.

Throughout my journey as a small business owner, I have encountered many talented individuals, including Flowers by Dr. Jo, a local flower gardener. See the stunning flowers she grows in her own yard and sells at her stand located in front of her NE Seattle home.
The work Family Law CASA of King County does is truly extraordinary but we can't do it without our amazing volunteers.
