For the finest and smoothest table surface, I do it in low light. A friend came by the humble shop this evening and took this nice shot. Not often I get to see myself at this station. The years of making tables are adding up. I deem it as one of my most important work. The dining table is the epicenter for love, laughter and memories in every home. I can’t believe we get to create that space.

Today is the birthday of FTW’s owner and artisan, Thao Tran! Let’s wish Thao a very happy birthday!
Thao is celebrating another year of life engaging in one of his other passions: fishing! In his hands is a fish that Thao has been on a mission to catch for almost 15 years: the bonefish. Bonefish are difficult to catch because they swim extremely fast and fight like crazy for their size. Thao has finally achieved his goal, just in time for his birthday. Happy birthday, !

A short table for a psychotherapist made of Mexican Royal Ebony. We love the Ebony in the middle with the lighter sapwood on the outside. Reminds us of the inner strength and beauty that people posses. Here’s to hoping the therapist’s continued success in helping their clients find peace. ❤️

It’s close to NYE and allow me to take a moment to reintroduce myself. My name is Thao Tran and I’m the owner, solo practitioner of Fallen Trees Wood. Having been a community activist, mayoral staff, a state lobbyist and a German Marshall Memorial Fellow where we met at historic tables in NATO, United Nations and Parliaments, this is my current and preferred board room. I don’t take this work lightly. Carpenters for centuries have done careful work to spread love and merriments to homes. Thank you for all those that supports my work in the past, present, and future. I look forward to serving you in 2021.

The Baldridge table and benches took a lot of grit and time to create, and once and received them, we were thrilled that they loved them. They called the table their “forever table.”

We love the warmth and rustic touch that these leather handles bring to our boards. The pairing of our wood with leather is unexpected, yet it looks traditional and timeless.
