We are Hopscotch
Indie Seattle Band, composers Jeanie Mishler and Charlie Hiestand bring a fresh approach to Jazz. We are in the midst of recording a new album. Enjoy!
Hopscotch (formerly known as Identity Crisis) is a Seattle based band made up of songwriting duo Charlie Hiestand and Jeanie Mishler, along with local jazz musicians, Sura Charlier, Jamael Nance and Nate Parker, and many others. We hope to have it ready for you by June of 2013. As Identity Crisis we made "Mosaic," a CD that uses many styles beyond jazz to tell a story. Each song is its own piece o

Hey everybody!! Our favorite bookstore and community venue is trying to reconfigure its business model.
Let’s help them out with a little love! ($)
Greetings, friends — we are humbled by your heartfelt response to our closing announcement. It has been an overwhelming few days, during which some circumstances have changed, and some community members are mobilizing. With their help, we are attempting to make it through a period of transition to a new Buzzard.
These “Friends Of The Buzzard” describe themselves as “a group of people who love the Couth Buzzard and whose lives have been changed by the bonds and friendships [they]’ve made there.” This group of extraordinary volunteers have helped us time and again — and now with a renewed purpose and a new set of helpers, they aim to help us secure (and sustain) the store’s future.
The fundraiser above is for rent and expenses at least through the end of May. It is Phase 1 — a way to buy time as we formulate a new, more sustainable business plan. We would all like to see the Buzzard thrive again, and this is the first in a series of measures intended to make that happen.
In the meantime, events are back on. We'll get the online calendar updated as soon as possible. Until then, check here, Instagram, or our website for the most current updates.
Thank you for your support, both financial and emotional, as we navigate this uncharted terrain. We hope to laugh, sing, write, and share with you on the other side.

A great night last night at Crossroads in Bellevue! Super audience! Everyone was hot for Hopscotch!! Yay! We love to play!!
We will be back at Crossroads of Bellevue this upcoming Friday, March 24th from 7-8:45pm. See you there!!
One more set left. Nothing like a St. Patrick’s Day at The Pink Door. I guess he wasn’t even Irish—St. Patrick that is.
I am super happy to be here at the Pink Door tonight. It is fun even though we aren’t playing Irish music.
By not playing Irish music, we are just honoring the non-Irish patron Saint of killing-off-the-indigenous-people’s-religion in Ireland.
That sounds wrong. Oh well.
Happy St. Patrick’s day from Hopscotch.

Another great line-up from the Vocal Sound of Jazz—the radio station that has played some of our music!!
Ok, I know I should be writing and recording more music, practicing, etc, but after teaching 497 children all week, I just want to watch movies.
Two more good ones:
Women Talking—Frances McDormand, producer/actor.
It is sort of a fictionalized version of “Be Sweet, Pray and Obey,” if you were ever so lucky as to have seen that documentary. This is based on a book which is based on a true story of a Christian community in Bolivia.
“News of the World,” Tom Hanks, post Civil War Texas, also excellent!
Not a book today, but a movie. “Triangle of Sadness.”
I don’t know if it’s billed as a comedy, a dark comedy, a dramedy or a tragedy, but well worth it whatever categorization.
Wait until the end. It blew my mind right off to Sunday.
I was sick yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed being sick for those two hours.
It’s on HULU.
I want to share all the books I have been reading to procrastinate song writing. I always find reading to be useful in this situation, which I almost always find myself in.
I read a book and think, “This is a fantastic idea, turn of phrase, etc. to start a song, verse chorus, whatever—and I will use it as soon as I finish reading this amazing book…”
So here it is:
The Premonition, A Pandemic Story by Michael Lewis.
I swear, it is a real page turner! I finished it in two days—couldn’t put it down. The ineptitude of the CDC was absolutely stunning.
When you starve the beast, it doesn’t work very well.
