Eckstein Middle School Library

While nothing is set in stone yet, it is worth noting that one of the proposals to deal with the SPS budget crisis is to cap all librarians at 0.5. Thanks to the librarian at Whitman Middle School for compiling data about what SPS librarians do as well as an advocacy step by creating a letter template at http://tiny cc/Weloveourlibraries to copy, edit, and send to the school board. I love my job and students and am hopeful that this will not come to pass with our collective voice. ❤️

I LOVE book suggestions from students - it accounts for probably at least half of my purchasing for the year because I want things that they want to read! While this is not unique to middle schoolers, the lovely email I received today from a student was that perfect blend of thoughtful (of course I want to add more books with contemporary Jewish-American characters!) and sweet.

Books and Bites meets on Tuesdays during both lunches where we gather together to share what we've been reading and play games - students can sign up on the library Schoology page! Today we played a game that I LOVE because the set-up is easy and interest is high, not to mention that it's collaborative! It's based on the board game Just One but you can adapt it with just pieces of paper. Here's how it works!

Books and Bites meets on Tuesdays and is a chance to share books we're reading and also play fun games. I love Just One! I discovered the board game which is fun but it's also fun to adapt it to books! Collaborative, fun, no prep, and easy to adapt for anything you're trying to teach!
