Been riding my bike a lot lately but also excited to make some bowls and planters, with new colors and lighter clays, for an upcoming trunk show at West Seattle Nursery & Garden Center in a few weeks (June 24, Noon-3pm). Here are just a few from the many I have made and the few dozen more I expect to have- bowls and planters of all shapes and sizes, plus plates and some outdoor sculpture.
Early birds at the will get cold lemonade and also I will have a few random door prizes!

Wah wah… this big ceramic platter got all fu**ed up in the glaze firing. Still cool and looks interesting.
Its a tough thing in ceramics I find.
I put time and work into a piece (which takes weeks from start to finish) and in the end, if it doesn’t crack or melt, the piece I pull from the kiln might be nice and interesting, but not have the effect I planned for. In this case, the colored glaze seems to have been volatile and really moved around outside of the intended space for each color. I am not sure how! I will probably still try to sell this because its perfectly functional and has a nice design, just less articulate than I anticipated. At least it didn’t warp or crack.

Fresh roasted driftwood anybody?

I love to make unique, one of a kind ceramic tableware for use by people in their homes everyday. A single piece of handmade pottery can make a regular moment a little more special and help make already special moments distinctive.
Here is a regular sized dinner plate with glaze applied in this method I can “old miner” which I relate to an episode of Deadwood that had this motif of braided and broken straps.

This 14” and other pieces of and will be for sale at the for our small ceramics coop’s (there are 6 of us) Holiday Party. The event is Sat, Dec 17 5-9pm. We are located just south of the Fremont Bridge on the Queen Anne side at 218 Florentia Street in the building with Henry paintings on it.
This piece shown here is 14” and very sturdy, meaning not light. Its dense and solid. I like the effect and how painterly it seems.

A small piece of may not change your life, but it can change a moment, I think. Maybe just a sliced apple on a may slow you down and let you take a moment to stop and the delicious, simple, common apple. Or a cookie. It can help make a special moment more memorable or turn an everyday thing into something special.
