Our visit to Mongolia is a wrap! Thank you to everyone who welcomed us.

Over two weeks, we worked alongside Mongolian partners in Bulgan Province, Ulaanbaatar, and Hustai National Park. In all, more than 150 people joined training.

In Bulgan Province, Шим Мандал / Shim Mandal NGO, a Mongolian NGO, and local partners trained about 80 community members, emergency responders, and forest staff, with support from the Australian Embassy's Direct Aid Program (Australian Embassy, Mongolia). The first live fire alert came in during the session. We're thankful Shim Mandal is now an EarthRanger deployment partner, so teams across Mongolia, including the Mongolian Forest Agency, can get set up, trained, and supported by a Mongolian organization.

Back in Ulaanbaatar, Demnel, the Wildlife Science and Conservation Center ( ), and WCS Mongolia (), a member of the SMART-EarthRanger Conservation Alliance (), completed advanced training. Then 40 scientists and practitioners from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, WWF Mongolia (), The Nature Conservancy in Mongolia (), and Snow Leopard Trust () joined a two-day workshop. At Hustai National Park, 30 rangers and managers took part in field training.

We're glad to support the Mongolian teams doing this work, and we are still learning from them.

Let's be clear-eyed: most teams working in protected areas these days aren't short on data. What we're hearing..."what do I do with all these data?"

Our deployment partner Resolve Wildlife is running a three-day Workshop on exactly that. From Data to Decision-Making, at Lapalala Wilderness in the Waterberg, 26 to 30 October, in collaboration with .

If you manage a reserve, run a control room, or look after the data, this one is for you.

Wonderful to visit our new friends on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) this past week.

For years, Easter Island was the backdrop for EarthRanger’s demo site, the place where we showed new users how the platform works, populated with make-believe rhinos, elephants, and rangers.

Today, it is now a real EarthRanger site. The people of Rapa Nui are using conservation technologies, including EarthRanger, to help protect roughly 270,000 square miles of marine protected area. That work safeguards traditional artisanal fishing practices, the cultural and economic lifeblood of the island.

Horton the elephant wasn’t present this time. The real work of Rapa Nui has taken his place, and it is in great hands thanks to community members there and WildAid

, and we spent it in Sabah with the people doing the work.

Two days with Sabah Wildlife Department (@), , four local NGOs, and the Malaysian Palm Oil Association on designing and maintaining elephant early warning systems.

Wildlife Protection Solutions was with us in person. Their AI-connected camera traps flag what is moving at the forest edge within minutes, and teams already running CCTV can route those feeds into EarthRanger instead of starting over.

And to top it off, human-elephant coexistence practitioners from Thailand joined virtually to walk through sites where the early warning system is already running and seeing great success.

Great way to start the day!

A geofence is a line on the map tied to collared elephants. Cross it, and an alert reaches whoever is on duty, day or night via SMS, WhatsApp, or email.

That is half the work. The rest is years of hard work from our on the ground partners managing relationship and troves of data showing where crossings cluster, what worked, and importantly, what didn't.

SERCA Web and Mobile bring both together in the coming year through

Happy World Elephant Day.

The Direction Des Parcs du Sénégal (DPN) is protecting wildlife across the whole country. It started in this control room in Niokolo-Koba National Park a few months ago, and now it's expanding to 12 sites nationwide, with 11 more coming online alongside Niokolo-Koba.

Running that many protected areas at once gets hard when every site keeps its own baselines, records different things, and has different measures of what success looks like. DPN is bringing them onto shared standards through EarthRanger today and soon through the suite of tools from the SMART-EarthRanger Conservation Alliance - SERCA

Congrats, Senegal 🇸🇳 -- conservation at this scale is no small feat!

We're a little late sharing this, but it's been a whirlwind few weeks across Asia for the EarthRanger team, especially for our own , partnership manager. He was joined by Yun Wu from our Ecoscope team and Elian Adams from our Thailand-based support team. Let's start in Kathmandu.

More than 70 researchers and conservation staff from 15 countries spent two days there for our first workshop in Nepal 🇳🇵!! Much of it was hands-on: teams out on their feet with EarthRanger Mobile, collecting and logging data the way they would in the field, and a ranger station where Elian and the team worked one-on-one with participants on their own EarthRanger sites. Case studies from Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia anchored the sessions.

At the Conservation Asia Congress () that followed, which we were proud to sponsor, we joined , the , and TERN Sri Lanka in a symposium on conservation technology for the 30x30 goal, with a look ahead to what the will provide those on the ground. Their work ranged from reading vulture clusters that can signal a poisoning event, to monitoring red pandas, to tracking wildlife through forest corridors.

In May 2025, 20 black rhinos were translocated to Segera Conservancy on Kenya's Laikipia Plateau.

Behind that moment: eight years of land restoration at , miles of fencing removed, migratory corridors reopened, and a partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service to bring rhinos back to a landscape that had lost them. The work reflects the long-view conservation model has built at Segera, and the broader commitment to community, culture, and place that champions across its global network of conservation-focused tourism.

By the time the rhinos arrived, 28 Segera rangers had completed refresher training. Tracking a founding population across 50,000 acres on foot would have been nearly impossible. EarthRanger gives the team one place to see ranger locations, ear tag and VHF signals, and camera trap data together, so they can respond in real time.

On , a place that still has them.

Cambodia's Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary, our first site in Asia, managed by Rising Phoenix is the last refuge of the Giant Ibis and a stronghold for three critically endangered vulture species. Banteng, Gaur, Eld's deer, and Siamese Crocodile are returning.

"When great engineers meet field experts, big ideas can be born."

That's how Frank Pope, CEO of Save the Elephants, opens the forward to our 10-Year Impact Report. It captures how EarthRanger came to be.

In the early 2010s, as elephant poaching surged across Africa, the late Paul G. Allen and his team at Vulcan Inc. set out to give frontline teams a clearer picture of what was happening on the ground. Working alongside and building off the organization's Real-Time Monitoring System, that collaboration became EarthRanger.

Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, who founded Save the Elephants in 1993, transformed how conservation understands wildlife by revealing elephants as individuals, not anonymous parts of a landscape. His passing in 2025 was a profound loss, and his legacy continues to shape how conservation teams use data to protect wildlife and people.

Iain's mission lives in the work. A look at Save the Elephants' impact in just 2025 alone.
