Join us and Taylor of gentle ruin on progressive 12-month journey into the foundational techniques of sashiko, with one fabric block-sized sampler stitched each month.
Throughout the series, we’ll build a collection of 12 stitched blocks while gradually learning the fundamentals of working sashiko on a single layer of fabric.

Each month’s sampler offers an opportunity to slow down, practice, and become more familiar with the rhythm of sashiko stitching. By the end of the series, you will have gained a greater understanding of how to add sashiko into any apparel you own, while your collection of samplers can be transformed into a quilt or wall hanging tapestry of your very own!

PART I — Hitomezashi | One-Stitch + Grid-Based Patterns

The first six classes explore hitomezashi (“one-stitch”), introducing grid-based patterns while building a foundation in sashiko technique, stitch rhythm, tension, and pattern.

PART II — Moyozashi | Pattern-Stitching + Flowing Patterns

The final six classes introduce moyozashi, or pattern-stitching, exploring more flowing and organic designs while building upon the skills developed in Part I, such as learning how to plan your stitching routes and how to complete a sashiko pattern without knots for a clean design.
