Sonoma County's wine industry is entering its fifth year of decline, with the 2025 grape crush down nearly a third from its 2018 peak and roughly 30% of local grapes going unsold, according to Sonoma County Winegrowers president Karissa Kruse. Growers have pulled out about 2,700 acres of vines to help stabilize prices, and two major trade groups are merging into a single organization, Sonoma County Wine, in 2027. Sonoma County Farm Trails hosts the Gravenstein Apple Fair Aug. 8-9 at Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol. The event features more than 40 local farms and producers, a free pie baking contest, live music and a panel on female farmers, marking 2026 as the UN's International Year of the Woman Farmer. All proceeds support Farm Trails' year-round programs and scholarships.

Mary Moore co-founded the Bohemian Grove protests 45 years ago after activists learned the private men's retreat drew scientists and politicians who once discussed the Manhattan Project there. Saturday's turnout was around 50 people, mostly longtime demonstrators now in their 70s and 80s, a fraction of the crowds the protests once pulled in the 1980s.
