When the Glass Fire started 6 years ago, I was nearing the end of my term as Mayor of Santa Rosa. We were in the midst of the pandemic, and still in the early phases of the Tubbs Fire rebuild and recovery process. I remember those days vividly, and while many homes and structures were lost, there was no loss of human life…reminding me how grateful I am for our first responders for preserving the lives of all our residents. 6 years later, Sonoma County is more prepared to address the threats posed by wildfires, while being much more proactive on vegetation management and fire prevention initiatives. I’m filled with gratitude for our Santa Rosa Firefighters, Sonoma County Professional Firefighters, CAL FIRE firefighters, and all first responders working each and every day to keep our communities, and Sonoma County, safe.

Sunday marks the six-year anniversary from when the Glass Fire started in 2020. This fire ended up burning 67,484 acres across Napa and Sonoma counties, destroying 1,520 structures. It ranks today as the 12th-most destructive wildfire in California history in terms of structures lost.

More than 600 of us gathered this morning at the Student Center at Sonoma State University for the 13th Annual State of the Latino Community Address, presented by Los Cien. It was an inspiring and informative morning focused on the issues shaping the future of Sonoma County’s Latino community.
We heard powerful information and data on the local economic impact of immigration enforcement, the State of the Latino Community—Economic Power & Opportunity, and AI, Work, and the Future of Latino Opportunity.

Thank you WINDSOR! Last night, I held the second meeting of my five part Community Engagement Series across District 4! What a meaningful way to spend a Sunday afternoon at the Family Justice Center of Sonoma County’s Annual Gala and Auction, “A Journey of Hope.” It was inspiring to connect with fellow supporters and hear from District Attorney Carla Rodriguez and State Assembly Member Chris Rogers about their collaboration on AB 1657, legislation supporting victims of domestic violence — and even more exciting to learn that the Governor has signed the bill!
Congratulations to everyone whose hard work made this possible. Executive Director Marsha Lucien also shared heartwarming stories about the impact of Camp HOPE and the difference this work continues to make in our community.
