First published in 1936 as The Negro Motorist Green Book, it became an essential resource for Black travelers navigating discriminatory practices across the U.S., especially in the Jim Crow South.

Green, a Harlem-based postal worker and visionary, published the guide annually until 1966, printing 15,000 copies each year. His work ensured safety, dignity, and freedom of movement for countless families.
